Cesc Fabregas believes the midfield battle could be the key against Manchester United this weekend.
Arsenal go to Old Trafford on Sunday in poor form, up against a team in very much the opposite, but the youngster is confident he can overcome the likes of Carrick and Scholes in the United midfield.
"The key area in this match could be in midfield," he told the Daily Star.
"Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes and John O'Shea are all players that complement each other well.
"What we have to do is keep the ball for the majority of the time."
The Spaniard admitted he was surprised Alex Ferguson did not bring in Owen Hargreaves or Spanish team-mate Marcos Senna.
"I was surprised United didn't sign another midfielder because they wanted Marcos Senna and Owen Hargreaves.
"I don't know Hargreaves that well but I am aware of his quality.
"However, I have had the pleasure of playing with Senna at the World Cup and he would be a big help to anyone.
"They have put a lot of faith in Carrick. Only time will tell if the confidence shown in him was too much."
