Arsenal's triumphant 2-0 victory over FC Porto on Tuesday night has been soured by an injury to newly signed defender William Gallas.
Gallas went down in injury time with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. After an inspection by club doctor Gary Lewin he was substituted for Alexandre Song.
Manager Arsène Wenger spoke to Arsenal.com about the injury to the versatile defender:
"Gallas has a hamstring problem. It looked to me very serious. We hope it's not too bad, but for Saturday certainly he'll be short. [After that] I don't know, if he will be available for the French national team or not."
The injury to Gallas raises concerns for Arsenal due to Johan Djourou withdrawing from the squad that defeated Porto. At the moment it is unknown whether Djourou will be available for the London derby against Charlton on the weekend.
Djourou might be also sidelined with injury after pulling out in the warm up against Porto, and with Gallas potentially out Arsenal will be without a recognised centre-back to partner Kolo Touré. Justin Hoyte has played next to Touré before, but that would also leave Arsenal without a left-back unless Mathieu Flamini fills in like he did last season to great effect.
Arsenal-Mania will keep fans posted as more news surfaces in the coming days.

A blow yes but not massive!!!
It seems to me that if you were going to get a hamstring nows the time to get it, because looking @ the fixture list over the next month or so we should be able to work around this problem. By my reconing (all due respect to the upcomming opersition) we have 47 days before we need to call upon him again (the Liverpool fix).
Djourou he could be back soon? Senderos didn't i read last week he was training with the first team again? & if all failes in the short term there would not be a better time to have a look @ Matthew Connolly, as i'm sure he's up to it!!!
