Arsène Wenger heaped praise on his young charges after they came through a battling match against Watford to take all three points.
Wenger said: "I said that we have improved [physically] and I think you could see that tonight.
"In the air we were strong and overall in the second half we were not troubled physically at the back, I think we have improved.
"We had to work very hard because we made it difficult.
"We scored the first goal and after they scored a great goal they had a fantastic commitment tonight, played at a great pace and closed us down everywhere.
"We needed to be patient, resilient, of course score a goal and it came from van Persie who is on fire at the moment."
The Arsenal manager also insisted that his team are still in the Premiship title race, despite being a massive 14 points behind leaders Manchester United before the New Year.
Wenger said: "No matter how big the gap is you just want to do as well as you can and it is enjoyable.
"The boys have great team spirit, they play well and do their best and they have quality."
