Wenger: Lehmann wanted to prove a point

After Thierry Henry had been booked for taunting Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, in an ironic twist Arsenal goalkeeper was also booked for time wasting.

The booking was also the German's fifth yellow card of the season and effectively rules him out of the Carling Cup final with Chelsea.

However, one wonders whether the booking was more of a convenience, after manager Arsène Wenger admitted that he was planning on playing Manuel Almunia against Chelsea.

Wenger said: "I would not have played him in the Carling Cup final, anyway.

"I feel he wanted to show that we can waste time (like Wigan) as well and the referee didn't like it."
