Arsène Wenger last night hailed his young team for coming through a difficult encounter with bogey side Bolton Wanderers.
Arsenal took the lead through Emmanuel Adebayor but Bolton equalised in the dying minutes of normal time, forcing the game into extra-time.
A quick Arsenal counter-attack saw Arsenal take the lead through Freddie Ljungberg and towards the end of the match Adebayor scored again.
Arsenal also missed two penalties and Adebayor missed an open goal in normal time.
Wenger said: ""Bolton produced some good quality tonight, but I felt we produced some exceptional quality and the game was electric.
"It was an exceptional game, played at an exceptional pace.
"There were patches of total football in there, undoubtedly one of our best performances of the season.
"But, having missed all those chances and then suffered the disappointment of Bolton coming back, I thought my young players showed amazing mental strength to win the game.
"I am so proud of them because they proved they had fighting spirit, as well as excellent composure on the ball.
"We don't have much time to prepare for the next game, so the fatigue factor is important.
"Hopefully, the players can recover but I will make a few changes for Saturday, that is for sure.
"When they came back to 1-1 I felt it was a good test to see once again how strong we are mentally and once again we gave the right answer.
"We started well and never caved in during the fight.
"Bolton have shown tonight they are a great side and we've shown we can match them and we created some exceptional football moments."
