Arsène Wenger praised on-loan signing Julio Baptista [from Real Madrid] for putting the team ahead of himself during his time at Arsenal.
Various press reports are indicating that Baptista has finally secured himself a permanent move to the Emirates.
Wenger said that the time was right for Baptista to step up and lead the Arsenal attack in the absence of Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie.
Wenger said: "Julio has a good spirit and, after Eindhoven, we are more concerned to get good results back than about individual performance.
"He is right in that frame of mind and he will work hard for the team even if it damages his efficiency.
"[His future] depends on Real Madrid as well. It is linked [with Reyes, who is on loan at the Bernabeu].
"He is injured at the moment with a knee problem. Spain finishes later than us they end in June so I don't know what they will decide.
"José wants to stay in Spain and Julio enjoys it very much with us. The passion, the spirit and the fact he plays in the team. He is very positive about his experience here."
