Wenger turns down Adriano

Wenger turns down Adriano

Arsène Wenger has revealed he turned down the opportunity to sign the Internazionale striker Adriano on loan.

The Brazilian has suffered with poor form and has slipped down the pecking order at the San Siro - however Wenger decided that he didn't need another striker.

"I was offered Adriano on loan and I said no," Wenger said.

"We do not need him and it was an easy decision to make because we're not out there to sign another striker.

"The agreement was for a loan. Adriano has qualities we don't need. They wanted to give us a player but wanted one back in return.

"I won't say who it was. I didn't want to lose the player they requested. I didn't necessarily think Adriano would upset the balance of the squad.

"I have bought Eduardo Da Silva. I already had Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie and I brought Nicklas Bendtner back. I still have Theo Walcott and Abou Diaby can play through the middle.

"Why should I bring more forwards in? I have big faith in my squad and they've proved me right so far this season."

It is understood West Ham are now tabling a loan bid for Adriano.

I agree with wengers decision to not sign adriano, look what happened with baptista, and a rumour was inter wanted gilberto in exchange. Martins would be ideal for arsenel, already proven performer in premiership, and would add that extra pace & acceleration through middle which adebayor doesn't offer that greatly to allow van persie to drop deeper as bergkamp did. By the way love to see them sign charles n'zogbie from newcastle a promisin winger.

Great idea Mr Wenger. As a gunners fan I think we have outstanding forwards in the squad and we certainly don't need a striker like Adriano.Good decision sir!

good idea Arsene, but you and i knw that that Martins is of the arsenal kind. he could be a very good compliment to v.parsie. Diaby is our next viera no disrespect to our Guru Cesc. but good moulding and he could muscle joey burton off the ball easyly

Yes in exchange with Bendtner it would be ok to take Adriano but anyone else no our players are good. Adriano can be better than Emmanuel Ad. but not better than Van P. I really see a need of a serious strong and committed striker to come on if Wenger can allow that. Please I am pleading again and again we need someone like Martins O. Otherwise we are going to see Arsenal going down yet Mid fielders and defenders are doing a good job. Please balance and help boys to not be burnout

Not Adriano but we need another striker since injuries will be there and we need good results. Martins or anyone who is flexible can be bought. Please Wenger do not ignore the fact. Soon we will kn ow that we needed one or two more serious strikers, but not Adriano though. Thank you Wenger that is a good decision

Wenger was perfectly right for rejecting Adriano.Arsenal's style of play does not fit him, besides he was declared excess by Inter whom i believed are not better than us !!

Daniel - who the hell are you to call Wenger an idiot? Look at what he has achieved for our club, often on a miniscule budget. I've never come across such a moronic Arsenal fan before. Adriano is by no means guaranteed to be a success, and bringing players in on loan is generally not Wenger's syle anyway - it doesn't do much for the squad. The boost that young players like Bendtner will get from hearing Wenger say he doesn't want Adriano as he already has strikers who are as good is also quite brilliant.. all part of Wenger's style of instilling belief and confidence in his players.

Adriano is good but I tink it's going a bit far to say he is better than Robin. Yes Adebayor but Da Silva is an unknown entity and it's too early to even compare the two. In terms of scoring in a foreign league DaSilva clearly has a more proven record. I look at Adriano like as A fat lazy f*** who would would at best get 5 league goals this season for us.

Correct decision. Although he is a good player, but he couldn't success in prem. league. Football is not his priority.

Arsene Wenger Why Would u Tutrn Down A Player of his Quality He Would hav been the 1 of the Best Strikers in the prem if he came. he certaily is better then any arsenal forward.

Well, really confusing! judging by Adriano's qualities, i think he is better than any striker we have now but to be honest, he has dropped in form due to overweight and lose of confidence. Am sure Wenger might not want to pull another Baptista this time around and my guess of the player Inter is requesting for in return is Bendtner. Really, Wenger should have taken that offer if its Bendtner. Adriano will play better in Arsenal to prove his critics wrong if taken. Wenger is not that clear here, i feel part of the rejection is due to Adriano's huge weekly wage. Trust me, thats the main reason!

I think the player that inter wants in exchange for adriano is rosicky because i remember reading somewhere that masimo moratti wants rosicky. Not sure though. If it is indeed Rosicky then i think Wenger has made the correct decision simply because what we need atm is not another striker but a winger. If Wenger agrees to this loan it will only imo weakens arsenal

What kind of Arsenal fan would call Wenger an idiot, read what he said, that they wanted some1 in return, spot on we,ve got enough strikers we have to give them a chance, so dont u think Wenger knows what the team needs, he only works with them day in day out + brought in some of the most talented players in the world who were unknown at the time, but he,s an idiot yeah? he,s a visionary

they wanted either flammini or rosicky not exactly sure which 1 -adriano has been playing like shit for past 2 seasons where as the other 2 are just getting better
+ we do all already have vpersie eduado bendtner adabayor walcott that can all go striker not to mention hleb and rosicky who are both actually attking centre midfielders so we dont need another stiker

can adriano fit into this arsenal passing team? ask that question daniel. wengers knows what he needs and what he doesnt. otherwise, you would be manager!
