Manager Arsène Wenger hailed his side's performance away from home in a difficult European tie.
Arsenal were the better side against Bucharest and a late Robin van Persie goal ensured that the North London club left Eastern Europe, so often an unhappy hunting ground, with all three points.
Wenger said: "It was a question of intelligence and patience and we showed that.
"I am very pleased with result and the performance away from home.
"We had to make sure we weren't caught on the counter-attack, and we almost were once but they didn't take their chance and that was the turning point in the game.
"It says a lot about the resolve in the team, not only because we won but because of the focus we have.
"There is something special in this team and hopefully it will last."
