Captain William Gallas has hailed manager Arsène Wenger's approach to developing a successful youth policy at Arsenal.

Wenger defied critics by refusing to spend any of the reported £100 million made available to him to spend on new players, and instead decided to put his trust in young players such as Robin van Persie, Emmanuel Adebayor, Theo Walcott and Francesc Fabregas.

But Gallas said that it's important that the Gunners don't lose focus as they are about to embark on a season-defining month in which they will face Liverpool and Manchester United.

Gallas said: "Arsène Wenger was right. After the departure of Titi, he has trusted the group, the young players.

"What has changed this year is drive, collective desire, and fighting spirit.

"What I see is a group that is fantastic, our start to the season is amazing and we have great fun playing in such a team.

"But at the same time, all that is a little frightening. On Sunday at Anfield, we will know much more.

"I have said I will wait for the end of the season to talk about our run of results. We are just in October, and a lot of things can still happen.

"As a captain it is also my role to temper enthusiasm.

"The match against Slavia Prague was an exceptional night. We achieved the same feat as Juventus.

"Now it would be nice to imitate them and win the Champions League."

So now that we're winning he decides he's happy with Wenger's policy. This is the same man who criticised the lack of big name signings earlier in the year. Make up your mind Gallas. and while you're at it, give the armband to Toure, he deserves it far more than you do.

Is this the same Gallas who last season said that Arsenal have got it all wrong because they focus on youths far too much?

Yet another laughable contradicting comment from the 'acting' Captain.

I totally agree with tha capt. and would love to see Arsenal to keep producing world class players at a very young age and not to sell them to other teams.

His comments might sound more sincere if he hadn't blasted Wenger over the summer for the same policy.
