Report: Djourou set to be sold to Birmingham

The Daily Mail reports that defender Johan Djourou is set to be sold to Birmingham City, the club which he is currently on loan at.

Many fans are calling for Djourou's recall, especially since defenders Emmanuel Eboue and Kolo Touré will be absent for a long period during the African Cup of Nations.

And the Swiss centre-back also impressed fans, more than Philippe Senderos, when he came into the side last season.

He has since been on-loan to Birmingham City, where he has impressed again, but the Daily Mail reports that he has been deemed surplus to requirements at Arsenal and is set to be sold for a seven-figure sum.

I like many other Gunners fans think that Djourou is a better defender than Senderos. Senderos is fine if he is facing the ball, he's strong and always willing to attack the ball, the problem is if he gets turned or the balls played in behind him. He lacks pace and the timing of his tackles and so tends to panic and drive in, making him good for a lest 5 penalties a season. Unlike Djourou who has the lot, he's strong, got pace, a good timer of his tackles and is an all round good footballer, who I believe will be a great central defender when he matures. Remember I think he's still only 19. I think that Arsenal should recall him wihout a doubt and they might be better adviced to send Senderos out on loan to perfect his trade(let him make his mistakes playing for someon else). Any time he's plays he makes me extremely nervous and I don't really know why Wenger persist with him. He doesn't really fit into the mould of the total footballer that he's nurturing at Arsenal, so can anyone tell me why he gets first time football and Djourou's out on loan?

What, selling Djourou? Come on, has Wenger lost it? Djourou was marvelou against Drogba in the game against Chelsea last year unlike Senderos. Now he will be sold? That kid is what 19-20, 6,4ft tall and a very calm and composed fella. He should be kept and selling quality like him is counter productive. He has never had a run of 10 games in a team so he is untested. Please dont do this to us.

I hope this isn't true as we all know Djourou is a much better player than Senderos. The only way I can see this going over well with the supporters is if Arsene has something up his sleeves for the Jan. transfer window. For his sake and ours...I hope this is the case.

I find this absolutely amazing. Wenger is willing to sell a potetially world class defender in Djourou and keep that Donkey Senderos. When is AW going to understand that Senderos would struggle to hold a 1st team place at a league championship side. The guy is useless.

they should both be kept, Djourou is a better footballer all around but Senderos is a better Defender, they could forge a nasty good partnership post gallas/toure era

This is pure stupidity. The story is that Arsenal want a fee for extending the loan. They aren't selling him to Birmingham.
