Manager Arsène Wenger has said that the defeat against Tottenham in the Carling Cup will hurt the team, despite fielding mostly second-choice players for the match.
To compound matters, Nicklas Bendtner scored an own-goal to give Spurs, who scored as early as the second minute, a further advantage in the game.
Wenger said: "I feel a defeat is painful, it doesn't matter who it is against.
"Overall I feel everything went against us tonight and we were a bit naive as well.
"I feel sorry for the young players, who gave absolutely everything tonight."

The defeat was a disgrace. I saw a far better Tottenham side in the last three times we have played them. I am worried - very worried. To even think that they can compare to us on any level while Wenger is in charge is beyond belief. This Arsenal team is not as good as Wenger thinks. Sorry Arsene.

Wenger must know that all cups are equally important to a club. He shouldn't value only Premier & Champions.

I think Mr Winger need to be suspended for a week, how can an experience manager at this point select those younger players for a big match like last night. even the keeper.he should carry fans along in his discessions. thanks

i would just like to say that i feel if you want to win it you need your strongest side out at all times, to expect to keep going behind or gambling on going behind to give second string players a game and then expect first team players to save the day its to much to ask, Spurs can now play for ninety,i know we have spoilt but this realy hurts.Keep yer chin up boys.

well sure we lost but that was not our 1st team. i believe we still have the skill and talent as well as belief that we can go on and win atleast two trophies this season. we're a tough team and cannot be held down by just 1 defeat.

can we all get some perspective please, if you look at the stats we had more possetion and attemptes than we did in our last three meetings, we were very very luckey to beat spurs at home in the league, remember Keans misses?
Suprs finally got some luck and we lost ours, don't kid yourselves that Flamini Roskiy and co would have made a huge difference, i remember them at middlesbrough. although Walcot was terrible i hope Wenger can admit defeat with him because we can't carry anyone

Why couldn't he just say that he was beaten on the night by a better team - good luck in the final and leave it at that ? It's only once in a blue moon it happens after all - it stinks of bad loser

Joie de vivre
Was it a rout? Was it a thumping? Was it a humiliation? It was certainly glorious. You may mock the fact that Spurs haven't beaten Arsenal for many years and that this is a micky mouse comp etc. But what I really enjoyed was the fact that Arsenal were really trying to win. Given the line up, Wenger really wanted to win this one otherwise why would Gallas, Sagna and one half of that famous eastern European lesbian pop duo be playing? The strength on the bench was even more telling. Fabregas was on within 15 minutes bolstering the side even further.
Spurs beat Arsenal at their own game, and it would, could and should have been by a far higher margin. The first leg was a ritual humiliation of those young kids, lucky to go away with a draw. It can't have done much for their psychology. The second leg ironically Arsenal played better, but had no answer to the devastating attacks and were reduced to vicious in-fighting. No matter how low things have got at Spurs, it's never reached those depths. Even with Adebayor's habitual goal against, there didn't really threaten too much.
For the first time in many, many years we can compete with you boys which has to be a good thing for the game. The writing has been on the wall before Christmas, where Arsenal would have been lucky with a draw, let alone lucky to get the win. I think Ramos can certainly give Wenger a fair few more headaches in the years to come.
Forgive the crowing, life is great….

I feel that A.W. didn't go into that game with the right strategy. How can you play Walcott and Bendtner up front when they bearly scored 5 goals in between them. The right combination would have been either Bendtner - Eduardo or Adebayor - Walcott, We underestimated the opposition, in their team, all the players could remenber what it feels to be beaten by an Arsenal team, unlike our players who certainly didn't know how to approach that game but this heavy defeat will teach our young Guns what it is to play against our North London rival. Gallas as the captain and the experienced defender didn't show his worth. He should have been there to Sweep around and let his defensive partner work more after all that cup is for our Young gun to win or lose. The score line revealed his inhability to cop with fringe players.

We are reaching a stage where our we are loosing patience with Wenger, our defence is is shambles and we need 2 experienced defenders so is one good striker. Im sorry that if we go to Old trafford with this team, United will Feast on our team. We have got the money but our Coach is so budget minded as if its his team. We need trophies and we this perfomance, i doubt if we finish second in the premiership

This does hurt. One because of the fact that Arsenal got one of their biggest hidings in an extremely long time. Two, because the guys looked extremely terrible on the pitch.
I'm waiting to see how they are going to pick themselves up and thrash Newcastle this weekend. Especially after the Manu and Bendtner incident.
