Wenger defends selection policy

Manager Arsène Wenger has defended his selection policy in the wake of the defeat against Tottenham in the Carling Cup.

The result knocks Arsenal out of the competition at the semi-final stage.

Wenger said: "I feel that the competitions that matter to us are the championship, the Champions League, and after that, the other competitions.

"We go for a policy at the start of the season and stick to it no matter who we play and when we play and where we play."

Oi, I`m out here taking stick and will do for a long time to come from all the scum supporters AND others and he say`s it doesn`t matter. I first went to highbury as a supporter 47 years ago, now I`m told my feelings don`t matter. Being ahead and better than our arch rivals matters at all times.
For every gooner shirt sold there`s a supporter taking stick at the moment, have some pride.

i'm agree with a big boss .the young player must go to play and does not only to see the game.they will have the experience and become the star player coming soon.the gunners already achieve about that....you must agree!

i think the squad definitely needs to be strenthened as we cant keep using diaby out of position. theo is not good enough to wear the shirt and we need a natural wideman else we loose everything in a week just like last season. players to be sold gilberto and diaby. theo should go on loan, i hope he is not another english player not to make it at this gr8 club. Arsene should also take some lessons on tactics not just blooding young players he should substitute on time and learn to read the game.

I think wenger was right to stick to the kids. But we do need some cover at centre back. We need to concentrate more on the PL, CZL and FA cup. Theou walcott needs more time. The lad is young, he has pace and skil. He needs to learn to be composed and hold the ball better. i would give him two more seasons before really bringing out the knives. Next season, wenger should stick with the same policy of giving the kids a carling cup game. Its hard to stomach losing to the scum, but its only the carling cup. though they celebrated like they had won the CL. typical scum

Wenger is right... as always. Of course I'm upset we lost to the Scum, who wouldn't be. But I know that come the end of the season when Arsenal will have Champions League and/or League title and/or The FA Cup lifted firmly above William Gallas' head, I'll remember this moment and laugh! Spurs went to Wembley and fucked it up!

I think Wenger needs to buy a couple of players. Without adequate cover in certain areas, we'll lose everything this season. I think every gooner will agree too that theo is not good enough to wear the shirt.... Jason

What about Pride, no room for that in the modern game with all the money, is there. FFS. Should have played full strength and got the kids to the final otherwise may not have bothered to enter the competition.

This policy is rubbish. its not like a word pronounced by tongue and cant be taken back. a policy should be changed according to circumstances.this policy screwed a number of times.

Fabregas, Sagna, Gallas, Hleb, Van Persie, Adebeyor. Ah... the kids.

Hmm. He did not seem to be sure what he wanted to do last night. After all the game ended with Gallas, Hleb, Adebayor, Gilberto, Sagna and Eduardo playing. Did not seem like he stuck to his policy properly last night.
