Hypocritical Ferguson criticises Gallas

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson again showed his hypocritical side by choosing to criticise Arsenal captain William Gallas, and ignore the dirty tactics employed by some of his players.

Gallas was guilty of a confrontation with Nani, who was guilty of showboating when the Gunners were 4-0 down.

Ferguson said: "I thought Gallas should have been sent off. The referee must have a look at that again.

"He kicked Nani from behind and the referee called both over because they sized each other up. He should have been red-carded.

"I think Nani shouldn't be showboating, he doesn't need to do that.

"In some ways it shows a great deal of courage to do what he did, that's one side of it."

Manager Arsène Wenger also chose to criticise Nani, saying that there was no need to show disrespect to any opponent.

Wenger said: "Nani was very good today but he did not need to juggle the ball.

"He is a young player and wanted to show what he could do. Maybe he can learn from this."

Do all arsenal supporters forget the heyday of the great Henry? Juggling around opponents was a trademark of the former Arsenal ace. I don't know how Ferguson was viewed as hypocritical; he acknowledged that what his own player was unsporting in his antics yet violent conduct toward said player is unacceptable. I find this to be true no matter who you support. The type of behavior displayed by Gallas , Flamini and Hoyte was deplorable. I don't care how bad you are getting your ass kicked in any competition, resorting to plain holliganism is the stuff of spectators not athletes. Nani, bring the ball down to your feet a bit sharpish next time! Cheers.

Guess quite a few of the gunner fans already expressed the view that wrong is wrong (kicking is wrong) and showboating is not wrong (although some may say its not in the best of taste to kick an opponent when they are down). Gallas and a few other players deserve to be served yellow cards for their actions which wld amount to assault (GBH) if releated in the streets of London.

I disagree that Ferguson is being hypocritical. It's fair criticism, since Gallas really hit Nani (out of play). It's also fair that Wenger criticises Nani for his inmaturity.

Pains me to say it but Ferguson is right. In fact, both Gallas and Hoyte should have been sent off, for kicking Nani.

I have watched Arsenal teams since the 60's. I have seen many inept performances, but none of which I was ashamed of in the way I was of yesterday's. There is no excuse for not trying.

I am an Arsenal fan, and have followed them for 30 years, but what self-pitying nonsense, and distortion of events. Why should anyone be offended by an oponent demonstrating their skills; one should have the humility to accept, and know that while showing off may not be attractive, in the end it does more harm to the exponent than the receiver - and certainly does not justify any retaliation. Gallas' kick was blatant and in front of millions of viewers - it was petty and vindictive, and should be punished, regardless of who does it.

Gallas blatantly KICKED Nani in the region of the achilles tendon repeatedly, from behind. Why don't you say so???

Showboating was a speciality of Henry back then and no one complained, at least not us Arsenal fans.
Gallas and a couple of your guys played unfair and even could have injured some of the United players, face it. The dive in the end was also a disgrace. And now Wenger is proving to be a sore loser again. Sometimes I im embarassed to be an Arsenal fan. And do not forget Gallas made some disrespectful comments on United before the game. So no wonder he gets some stick now. Also considered the fact that he played like a shower of shit, made a couple of mistakes and looked like that was all of no concern for him.
