Taylor: I will be happy when Eduardo is playing again

Defender Martin Taylor says that he will be happy when Brazilian Eduardo da Silva is back playing again.

Speaking for the first-time since breaking Eduardo's leg in a tackle, Taylor also revealed details of his visit to the Croatian international when he was in a Birmingham hospital.

Taylor said: "I'll be really happy on the day when I see he is back in the Arsenal and Croatia line-up and when he is scoring goals again.

"The injury was terrible enough. When he gets back to fitness and he puts the ball in the net for Arsenal for the first time, we will all feel much better.

"People will be able to see that accidents like these are the nature of football and you can recover from it.

"I went to see him on Saturday.

"Unfortunately, he was still recovering from an operation, so first thing on Sunday morning I went to the hospital and he was really good to see me.

"I thought maybe he wouldn't want to see me, which would have been fair enough because of the trauma.

"Although there was a language barrier, I just said that I didn't mean him any harm at all and that I hoped he made a quick recovery.

"He took it on board and nodded. I was just really glad we could communicate. He is obviously a really strong man.

"Since then, I have read in the papers that he would be happy for me to visit him. That's something I'd like to do."

Yes it's true sometimes legs get broken in games and I give Martin Taylor credit for showing remorse at his actions. However, that was an ill timed tackle 35yds away from any threat on goal. His studs were up and he caught Eduardo between the ankle and knee with his full weight behind it.I believe Mr.Taylor didn't mean to break Eduardo's leg,but any contact with the player under those circumstances was bound to lead to serious injury. The league has been trying to clamp down on bad tackles all season, this is why.Eduardo has been a shining light and now not only is his EPL season over,he will miss out on the European Championship as well.

this is not a fair statement.i am a true gunner and was truly horrified by the tackle as well but the fact is that tackles like that happen all the time.taylor has shown regret by his statements and actions ( including paying a visit to the hospital to personally console eduardo ), i think we should all be fair to him.i'm sure that if the hands of the clock could turn back,he would not make that kind of tackle.it's done, it's done; what we all need now is patience, prayers for a speedy recovery, & understanding.

I read this article and the full one in the Independent. I am amazed at the length that the English media are going to to justify Martin Taylor's horrible action in that game against Arsenal. Just in case the English journalists and soccer pundits have forgotten: It is Eduardo whose leg is broken and is facing the possibility of a career that has come to an untimely end; it is also Martin Taylor who caused Eduardo that injury. Whether he (Taylor) meant to injure Eduardo or not is besides the point. The point is that Martin Taylor's wreckless tackle resulted in Eduardo's injury. If Taylor is psychologically affected by this, the writer and readers of this article should not forget to ask themselves how affected psychologically and physically traumatised Eduardo is. Of course, Taylor has to hope that Eduardo will come back to play. After all, if this the end of Eduardo's career, history will record that it was ended by Taylor's wreckless tackle. I just wonder why English clubs feel as though they have to play like that when they face Arsenal. The attempt to intimidate an opponent is very much unBritish and certainly not English. The English are known all over the world as fair and prepared to stand up for victims. When will the English media do the right thing: SAY SOMETHING FOR EDUARDO WHO IS THE VICTIM IN ALL THIS.
