FIFA have asked the English Football Association for any documents related to the incident involving Martin Taylor and Eduardo da Silva.
The tackle by Taylor resulted in Eduardo suffering a double fracture on his left leg, and is projected to be out for at least 9 months.
Taylor was red-carded right away, but FIFA are now wondering whether the tackle warrants a longer than three match ban.
Taylor himself has insisted that the tackle was not malicious, but FIFA want to put a stronger stamp on wreckless and dangerous challenges.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter, speaking in Gleneagles following a meeting of the International FA Board, said: "We will ask for the file.
"We have now the right to ask national associations to give us the file - and if we, the authorities, feel it [the suspension] is not enough then we will come back on that."
"I told the International Board that a player who is deliberately attacking another player and tries to demolish a player should be banned, and not only for three matches but temporarily banned or a life ban depending on the severity of the attack.
"Why the hell should footballers demolish each other?"

FIFA must take very strong action on such matters. I suggest that players causing such appalling injuries should serve a half-season ban, continued across seasons if necessary and between clubs after transfer.

It was a simply disgusting tackle. Whoever thinks that the player who did that tackle should be out for the same amount as the person who was injured is completely right. I think that should happen. 3 match ban is nothing, becuase it could easily happen again to another player. He should get a longer match ban until Eduardo starts playing again. It could've easily ended Eduardos career and it could still pose a threat to his career.

Thank God for that ?! That was a horrific tackle, the player who inflicts that kind of pain and injury should be out for as long as it would take his victim to recover and if it becomes a career threat issue , it should be applied to both .We are talking sports not war zone !!!

Going in with your studs showing should be an automatic free kick like on the continent. It's reckless and can possibly end a career.

The latest move by Blatter is long overdue. All two footed lunges and tackles that are injury threatening shd be punished immediately with a straight red. No if and buts. That shd send a clear message to all the thugs in the game, and there are many of them believe me,that retribution would be swift and severe.
Then we shd see a real game of football. Yes you can have tackles but not to kick or maim another player.

When Taylor broke Eduardo's leg, the media and Birmingham's coach tried to put the blame on Eduardo's speed and talent. To add insult to injury, now the public is realizing that the English media has fabricated an Eduardo interview, and Taylor's visit to the Birmingham hospital. What is going on here? I ask English soccer fans what if Wayne Rooney or Joe Cole was injured in such a vile manner as Eduardo? No one in England or the FA can justify a three game ban for Taylor. It is simply not enough for the severity of the tackle. It's that simple. Blatter is absolutely right, and he should have added that the English FA has totally got this one wrong. I smell a conspiracy!

Finally,a voice of reason.I am not saying that Arsenal players are saints but we rarely put people in hospital with major bone fractures.Think if Eduardo could never play again, would Taylor provide for his family? Answer:hell no! Good call Blatter!

Totally agree with Robin.....the punishment should be more. This Taylor will be back playing football in a couple of weeks whereas Dudu will be in about 9/10 months. Just doesn't seem fair to me that the victim is punished more than the culprit. Before anyone says anything he went in high and with studs showing.

There should be more severe punishments given to people who tackle as dangerously as that, whether its accidental or not. Tackles like that could end a player's career, and its not right that the player guilty of the tackle should just get a 3 match suspension.
