Clichy: We never discounted Chelsea

Defender Gaël Clichy has said that Arsenal have never discounted Chelsea from the title race, ahead of their clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Many pundits had dismissed the Blues' title challenge, citing that the Premiership was a two-horse race between Arsenal and Manchester United.

But Chelsea are now only two points behind the Gunners, and could overtake them should they win on Sunday to occupy second spot in the league.

Clichy admits that they are treating Chelsea as a very serious threat.

He said: "I don't think Chelsea have been overlooked. We always knew that they were going to be there at the end of the season, with such a great team and all the players they have got in their squad.

"Chelsea won two league championships and the only thing that they are missing is the Champions League.

"Of course, I won't wish them good luck in that this year because we are still in it as well.

"Chelsea have been behind in the league and that's not easier because you always have to win your games to catch up. But when you are in third place, people don't look at you like they look at the first team.

"We've had the experience of being on top and the pressure has been on. It's good to be top, it shows the quality is there, but it's not bad to be second or third. It will be an interesting end to the season and we hope we can come out in first place."

To all haters once again i know for a fact this is a competition.But no one shud come in this space to question our loyalties be it that of any player, staff,or my fellow maniacs! we love football and we do admire the rest of the teams!compared to rest arsenal is dope and feel all the rest are in the backyard which is a bit soft so i call it graveyard and this is our space not haters but keep hating en thats thats!

Chelsea have showed what hard work and having a target means. Arsenal should rise up to the challenge. Wenger should not make the mistakes he has been doing when fielding players to tackle them

Femi is a bitch. Why do u always think negative of us? For once say something good about us. Topgunner is right, why don't u join the Chelsea official site and become a member their than waste ur time here. Say something sensible. We'll see who wins. Fabregas will pierce through ur Chelsea's defence. Even I like Chelsea. It is my 3rd favourite team and 2nd is Barcelona. But over here I'm a true Arsenal fan. All of us are sad and know that we were supposed to be first but what is the use of crying over spilt milk. Its time we start over again and forget whats happened try our mighty best to win the premier league and Champions League. If u r a Liverpool fan also don't even think of Liverpool winning the Premier League cause they have dropped plenty of points.

Chelsea is not the same Chelsea we faced before. They are much tougher than what we faced in December. The trick to win against Chelsea is to match their pace and not concede any goal. Their attack is much better than before. Especially with Joe Cole who is an amazing assist. Drogba is back and so is Lampard and Terry. Chelsea's main strength lie in their attack. I saw the match. Their defence is not that great. Tottenham took advantage of that and from 3-1 the score became 4-4. If Cudicini is playing then we definetely have to take full advantage of that because he isn't that great. Our forwards and midfielders have to take their opportunities.

too right.chelsea are very doable.look what spurs did and know we can do better.even derby last week show that man u can be held back.what derby and spurs have in common was that they wanted it bad enough and believed it enough.and,theyre fans believed in them too.thats the way to go!!

fEMI- why not judge Wenger at the end of the season.Nothing personal mate but youll be full up with your own words if we win one or both comps.Chelsea are realistic contenders but conceedeing 4 at the other place is not great credentials.We win tomorrow and chelsea are put to bed for the title.We rise to the occasion in these big games and have to believe we can beat chelsea. If we can these forums will buzz with positives-keep the faith lads,at least until the fat lady has sung. I fancy us for the title still.Keep the faith!!!!

Chelsea is not a threat. It's now REAL. They're going ahead of us on Sunday. Thanks guys for disappointing us AGAIN. It's unbelieveable. Arsenal should have been about 5-points ahead, but are now struggling for second place and Liverpool are catching up. If this strategy is from Arsene Wenger then I must say that truly - ARSENE KNOWS!!! IT BOILS DOWN TO THE FACT THAT ARSENE WENGER REFUSED TO BUY PLAYERS JAN TO INCREASE DEPTH. BUT TRUE TO MR. MURINHO'S STATEMENTS, ARSENE WENGER WILL STILL BE TREATED LIKE HE WON THE TREBLE BY MOST OF THE FANS.
