Grant claims Chelsea play pretty football

Chelsea manager Avram Grant has made the most astounding claim, saying that Chelsea play pretty football and that he introduced that to the club.

When the Blues were under former manager José Mourinho, the Blues were labelled as boring, but being a team that could grind out the result that they wanted.

Now Grant is saying that Chelsea are playing attractive football, and paid tribute to his counterpart Arsène Wenger at Arsenal.

Grant said: "When Arsène took over at Arsenal they called them boring Arsenal and I think not even one person would say it now.

"I think not even one person would say it about Chelsea this year. I think we have an exciting team playing good football. Sometimes we drop points but the team is on the right way. And to change, to go to a different way, won't come in one day.

"I don't think in Chelsea there is time to do it like it was in Manchester United before Alex Ferguson took his first trophy. But I think this is the right way to do it.

"In 10 years? If Chelsea continue to go in this way I'm sure they will be a big success and it will be good. But I think the situation even now is good."

westozgooner you almost brought tears to my eyes with that comment. Anyone who loves Arsenal football knows that they play the most beautiful passing game you can find anywhere. It's breathtaking to watch them knock the ball around the park with so much ease no matter the opposition. True Arsenal fans love football because of Arsenal...by the way..Thank you Arsene Wenger!!

And yes, Gallas and Toure needs to communicate alot better. Gallas needs to remember that football is played and stopped by one thing only....a whistle. Don't expect the ref or assistant ref to call offside; I was a goalkeeper and yelled at my defenders for that nonsense. Two central defenders that's not communicating is a disaster waiting to happen. Almunia needs to speak up as well, he's a bit too quiet. Sagna and Clichy are excellent in my regard, they seldom allow cross balls and that's good for your central defenders AND goalkeeper. However, the team still needs solid replacements for these players. Injuries are bound to happen to defenders but when you have a mediocre replacement, it puts excess pressure on your defensive formation and goalkeeper.

I'm still waiting for the punch line! That has to be the biggest 'wanna be' joke of football I've heard this season. NOBOBY plays attrative football like Arsenal! Maybe Barcelona to some extent.

it is true that we need strong defender who has great pace like senderous, but i disagree with you about Kolo Toure. We have problem with Galas, he has to much confidence that is why he always does not put tight mark to strikers. He is always doesn't backup Toure at right time and angle. We need long paced and strong defenders like senderous. On Sunday with Chelsea i knew we would be defeated immediately after seeing that Galas was stating. He can not stop striker like Drogba or Anelka. Sometimes Arsene is totally confusing me, on the fast game like that how can you substitute a slower down player like Diaby? We needed somebody who run fast does not like to stay with a ball for a long time. Diaby and Gilbeto they always kiling fast moves.

pretty?

long high pretty ball to two forwards who both were half offside.
That was their tactics in the second half, and Grant was not a complete fool because long ball game is what they are actually good at. He just felt nothing was working, so he had them players to kick the ball from the deep. We needed to respond to the first goal somehow.

we will always want our team to perform well, but we still have to sort things out, otherwise history will repeat year after year. We need a striker like Tevez, and a midfielder who can score goals, like Pires, and another top quality CB.

We may be disappointed and frustrated but i dont think theres any other teams display we would love other than arsenal.chelsea-boring,spurs-inconsistent,liverpool-unpredictable,man-u-bitter rivals.i guess we have no choice but to pull ourselves 2-gether and accept the challenges.

its been a very bad weekend or i should say a very bad fews weeks, from out of 15 points we only got 4!!! Whoever in this forum said its ok to finish third cuz nobody espect us has no ambition specialy after all the works to stay top of the table for so long and lose it in one month is very disapointing, a good team and coach YES coach will never let this happen, that why manchester is on top now...

I disagree with the fact that many people thought Arsenal will do bad. But still during the first match there were many supporters but thing is always the same Arsenal will remain Arsenal. When everyone was there(Henry, Pires, Ljunberg and Bergkamp) we were amazing and we played our best. But when everyone left we weren't that great in tactics but we were a team that was young and confident and confident of giving our best best. The youngsters were inspired to do well and prove everyone wrong but since January or so after we stared winning and all and had a big lead, our over-confidence has left 6 points behind Manchester United. When I say over-confident I seriously mean Adebayor. When adebayor started scoring he started talking too much also. And now look at Adebayor he not hasn't scored in many matches but has wasted plenty of chances also. His last goal was against Milan but that was something that even someone below Bendtner level could score. For example myself. Walcott gave a superb low cross to Adebayor to score his first chmpions league goal in 15 matches. Wenger said he would score and he(Adebayor) scored but that was all thanks to Walcott. I still remember he missed many chances. Another thing is that fear has also let us down. We were afraid of Chelsea and Manchester United. Toure is isn't that great at all and must be sold. A good defender has to be bought and that should be someone from the German League. Bring Senderos back as he hasn't made many mistakes as Toure. Toure was afraid of Drogba but only Gallas could. 4-5-1 is a better formation because we could have even Denilson and the line up for midfield should be Hleb,Flamini,Fabregas,Denilson and Walcott. Forward should remain Adebayor because he is the only one who is experienced. Another thing is that we should not bring on our whole midfield to the penalty box because Ade needs space and that is what he did against boro in the 4th minute. He was the only person there so he easily scored. Van Persie has not regained his form and he should only play against the small teams. He has just come back from injury and we should not put any pressure on him and let himm slowly regain his confidence back. Flamini I doubt is a good player. I mean what has he done. We need a good centre midfield. But just think guyz. Adebayor has scored 19 goals in the premiership and is the 3rd top scorer. If Wenger had put him on the bench just think how many goals we would have missed and what position would we be in league table.

I'm more impressed by a manager who can take a threadbare squad to the top of the league, and stay there for the majority of the season, than a manager who spends millions to fill a squad with talent that barely gets used. Yes, I also hope that Wenger spends some money this post-season, but considering the past few years we have been fighting foreign-owned opposition spending 50 million plus on their squads, third isn't so bad. Although I hope and pray for it, I don't watch Arsenal because they win trophies, I watch Arsenal because they play gorgeous football. Sorry if that makes me less of a fan in your eyes, but Arsenal are the only reason I am a football fan.

where we went wrong was too keep going thru the middle.our best chances came from going in thru the flanks.in fact, thets a mistake we ve made a lot.they close that area up.stick 7 or 8 in there and ade or rvp cant fight thru it.theos been doin a little better cos he goes to the flanks. only edouardo can fight thru there.cheers birmingham fc.

Some of you guys are just too blind to see problems within the team, criticism is needed to make things moving ahead. After all those years regrouping, rebuilding, Wenger shouldn't have this same excuse for each season we are way back in third or 4th place. Yes, he brought us many trophies since he is in charge, but that was because we have Henry, Pires, Vieira, Campbell, Bergkamp in their prime years. Look at our squad NOW, I could only say, we have Gallas (Toure is also overrated after I saw how he felt difficult dealing with Drogba), Fabregas, and RVP on the way to become our next Bergkamp, so who are going to replace Pires, who as a winger scores double digit goals per season, and most importantly, have we found a Henry replacement in Ade? Definitely NOT! He is a joke, like we played 10 against 11 Chelskis yesterday. YES, we'd be happy finishing third if everyone else wrote us off in the beginning, but based on what we had achieved even after the Christmas period, WHY on earth Wenger chose not to strengthen the squad to hold on to the lead and win the EPL title, it was our best chance in years. How many more times do we have to blow the lead like that to win one trophy? 2003, now 2008. Shame on Wenger!

west oz gooner is right!most accurate comment so far.if it wasnt for wenger we wouldnt even be in the top 5! we were written off at seasons start by EVERYONE and look what we ve done.i think some people got ahead of ourselves and assumed it was ours(inc some players i think).now we are back down to earth.ida used as rvp as a super sub.sendin him in as a killer in the last 20.theoshoulda had more time.we had somethin before.dont know what it was but after birmingham we lost it.wenger will find it.i still trust.

I really don't know what to say but I'm pissed off with Wenger. If we don't win against Bolton I'm really gonna change my decision about Arsenal winning the title. Man U are leading and are 6 points clear from us and Chelsea is closing the gap. Why doesn't Wenger realize what Fergie is doing. I'm starting to admire Fergie and he definetely deserves the title Sir. This season he bought Anderson, Nani and Tevez. Look what both these players have done. Tevez was before in West Ham and he prevented West Ham from being relegated. How many young players does Wenger want? The problem is with our defence. Our defence is hopeless. We knew we had the lead and we knew that it it was our job to defend after Sagna scored but still the same thing is happening. Almunia did well but Toure did not defend well at all and he also had an amazing chance to score which he missed and Drogba's second goal was because of him not defending properly. The scoreline should have been more and Drogba did miss quite a few important ones but thanks to Almunia's safe hands they scored only 2 goals. If we don't win against Bolton I'm really going to get pissed off with Wenger and Arsenal.

Too bad and painfull.Have always said Adebayor is a disgrace to the midfield plays the ball for him and he wastes it!Also Wenger must go.Why not buy players?First the squad is thin and young.&at times his tactics are ashaming.Like after getting a goal yest.He would have packed the midfield shortly by introducing hardworking Denilson to help Cesc,Flamin,Hleb,Eboue&leaving RVP in as lone striker and remove Adebayor.Infact Clichy and Fab.Are too classic. Our midfield is a wonder but the striker is dispp. The team @us the fans.Wengers 4.5.I system is better because we could get results.Lets sign players. We miss Henry.Cant he come back?Adebayor must go

Anyone who says Wenger should leave is a retard. If he wasn't here we'd be lucky to be fighting with everton and portsmouth for 6th. I'm disappointed too, but considering everyone thought we'd be out of the top 4 at the start of the season, I'd say we've still done pretty well. And we play better looking football than anyone, hands down.

Something is certainly missing. Maybe we were just lucky earlier in the season with players hitting purple patches similutaneously. Time for a review of buying policy I feel. More Gallas level experience less Theo. C'est la vie.

Wenger had lot of time to turn things around against lower teams, and we also have had a 5-point lead slipped away during the period that we only have one game per week. No excuses. Someone should just tell Wenger, your time is up. Make big signings, or leave Arsenal. He had the chance in January (to buy a striker), and he also had the chance to bench Adebayor, but he did neither. By the time Adebayor rediscovers his scoring touch, we'd be 12 points adrift. The Birmingham game was the turning point, and Ade's stupidity and selfishness had cost our title hope like I said right after that game. IF Ade is still in the team, I will never watch Arsenal games again.

Just watched the game, so so disappointed. Adebayor was invisible all game, he is just a useless, brainless, lazy moron. Toure too should be responsible for the two Drogba goals. So much for this season, Arsene should reconsider his plan in the summer or we will never be able to challenge any trophy. Sell Adebayor!
