Manager Arsène Wenger has admitted that Liverpool are in the driving seat and have the advantage after last night's 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners took the lead through Emmanuel Adebayor but conceded three minutes later after a defensive lapse, allowing Dirk Kuyt to capitalise.

The Frenchman however felt that Arsenal were the better team over the full 90 minutes.

And the North London club had a clear penalty turned down when Kuyt tussled with Alexander Hleb in the penalty area.

He said: "I feel we were not rewarded for what we produced. To finish that game 1-1 is disappointing. We produced the performances we wanted and we had the chances to win it.

"Liverpool created very little, and the whole second half was played in one half.

"I cannot fault my players - we were unlucky on several occasions.

"It will be a test now for us in the second leg. But we should have won. Kuyt played virtually as a second right-back for much of the game, and they defended well all over the pitch.

"But you could see that the players have given a lot recently.

"In a game like that you do not create 20 chances - you may get four or five. We did manage to make that amount of chances - and just didn't take them.

"We were punished by their one really good opportunity - and we did not take ours.

"We were caught on the counter-attack, and credit to Steven Gerrard - because he showed a touch of class by creating that goal.

"But even then the ball was deflected into the six-yard area. It made it difficult for us to defend.

"Gerrard played well, but they sat deep and just waited for the counter-attack. But he is the ideal player to find when you have won the ball and want to counter. He had a good game, because we threw men forward.

"But if you look at our amount of possession compared to Liverpool, it is frightening that we could only come out of it with a 1-1."

Guys, relax, we'll be just fine for the 2nd leg. Because Arsenal would like to do it the hard way. One-draw, one win has been the winning formula in recent ECL games. As for team selection, Wenger should really look into the market this summer to find replacements for Pires, Ljunberg, and Henry respectively, as we have not really found those in recent years. Reyes was close to Pires, but too bad he didn't like England. RVP will be a good replacement for Dennis though, while Rosicky (if stayed healthy), Hleb are two attacking midfielders same as Cesc, we definitely need one Pires and one Ljungberg on the flanks and who can also contribute 10-15 goals per season. Also Flamini is not Vieira either, remember during our best years, Vieira would be in the box to score a quick counter-attack goal after only three passes from our own half. Can Flamini do that?... As for Tuesday, I guarantee Liverpool will sit back like the first leg to protect the advantage and trying to hit you on the break. We need to score early to drag them out and so as to score the second and kill the game off.

I agree with topgunner101. Wenger is one cunning guy. If you look at him he's got that smile which is quite cunning and I feel all cunning men have that. IF Wenger does have a plan then he must know that it is not working. The reason we can't keep a clean sheet is because are defense ain't that great. I'm not criticizing them but a few extra defenders will do some good. If Wenger is going to buy a player then I hope its not a french player coz our team is filed with french players. I recommend an Argentine or a German coz we don't have a single player of that nationality in our squad or otherwise a Brazilian like Diego. If Wenger wants to look for defenders then the place to look is at the German league coz they got the best defenders.LAhm and Mertesacker are two first class defenders. Midfield I suggest Gonzalez who is an Argentine. Robin, for one thing I can tell you are right we will win at Anfield and so is everyone but to win we have to play more attacking. Liverpool have tremendous pressure over them coz we beat Milan and Milan beat them in the finals. The thing is that we are the first english team to beat Milan in San Siro and that is a record we have broken. Winning against Milan 2-0 makes Liverpool quite scared. Since Liverpool are playing at home then they will be scared coz they know that no one can stop Arsenal from scoring goals and I just hope we do well and a win on Saturday that is tomorrow will boost our chancesc of winning the 2nd leg. But the one thing we have to realize is that the EPL and the UCl are two different things. Let blast Liverpool at Anfield GUNNERSSSSSSSSSSSS. GO FOR ITTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!

The fact that arsenal can't keep a clean sheet at the moment worries me for the 2nd leg.If they were not conceding easy goals as they have been then i feel we could go through.But its a case of you score 1 and will score 2 and that is a worry as they have not been in free flowing scoring mode of late.If arsenal concede an early goal it will be very hard to come back from as liverpool usually go all out in the first 25-30 mins.The fact that there is no sagna at right back concerns me alot as k.t has proven to be a bit of a liability there.he should definently play eboue right back and give theo a chance on the right wing.Eboue is a natural full back where as kolo is not forget playin senderos with gallas as that will not work for this sort of game.

I think chelsea will probably go through against fenerbache, itll probably be 1-0. Everyone expected arsenal 2 lose at milan but we won convincingly, and we can do it again at anfield.

We can win or go to the finals of UCL coz Fenerbache beat Chelsea and if Chelsea lose atStamford bridge then Fenerbache is in the Semi-Finals. I'm sure we will win at Anfield coz we have had only 2 losses this EPL. I'm sure we can beat Fenerbache but we must not underestimate them. God knows if we may meet Barca again and settle things for once coz we played well this season and I hope we get rewarded with something this season at least.

I understand your frustration Irfan but stick with us, it's all going to fall into place on Tuesday mark my words. When fans and media see a 1-1 first leg, they immediately think the away team is well in the driving seat well in this tie it isn't the case. We were all over them in the first leg and we are going to have countless chances at anfield. If we don't score, we don't deserve to be in the semi finals anyway. If we score, we can only go out by conceding 2 and if we score twice then I can't see Liverpool scoring 3. It doesn't seem to be happening at the Emirates (does anybody know how many games have we drawn their now in 2 seasons, I have lost count! So many draws we should open a lingerie shop in the ground). Liverpool will not want to sit back for 90 minutes, we will score. They may score as well, but I think we are going to show our superiority on Tuesday night. Ps. You are right about Eboue he is bloody awful, he wouldn't get past a 5 year old, or couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo. Also the sort of player who will get sent off in the final and cost you the trophy. Saturday will be an important confidence booster and I am going for 2-0 on Saturday and a 1-3 victory on Tuesday (have faith fella).

I don't believe in conspiracy theories, but there are at least four games where we suffered from referees (Birmingham, Middlsboro, Chelsea and now Liverpool. Having a Dutch referee from the same village as Kuyt: is it a bad coincidence only? We, including us fans should do our research and protest against such unholy alliances. For once, the British press came on our side for that blatant decision.
There is no democratic or any accountability of referees. It is a self selected group of people that pursue their corporate interests and are as open and transparent as Soviet style instituions.

And another point: if the first halftime was Champions league style of football and the second half - Premiership, I shall always go for Premiership football.

Fully agree. If Arsenal functions like a normal business, I can't imagine the Board pushing AW to spend. Boards are usually looking to keeping tight the strings of the purse while maximising profits.

i think we always make it difficult for ourselved by taking too long to attack, we possess 70% of the ball but we hardly trouble the opponent keeper, the invicible arsenal had henry, pires & ljunbarg. All could score goals anytime and at any angle. Right now only fabrigas, adebayor and van persy can score. I would suggest instead of playing eboue the manager should play walcot. Eboue does not have quick thinking and passes that we very much need, and his chances of scoring is 30%. Walcot on the other hand can score and he has the speed for quick counters that we very much need. We need to move forward with speed and accuracy and players coming into good positions just the way henry, pires and ljungbarg used to do. otherwise we risk another draw.

The only reason we lost the game is because as usual we are playing and extra man all the time, the referee. They have made some extremely bad decisions against Arsenal this season and they should stand up and be counted.
I agree totally that Walcott should be playing the full 90 minutes of every game now.
I don't blame Arsene Wenger at all this is the same team that until a month ago were top of the table against all odds. Give em a break

I don't think Arsenal were planning on getting a draw at Anfield had we win the first leg.
Obviously getting a result away from home is going to be difficult but I am sure we have what it takes to go through. A narrow win would suffice.

Femi you better stop talking like a nice person. Wenger is to blame. HE could have bought a striker and why didn't he. Injuries can happen to anyone at anytime. A person can get injured in no time. Now that Persie is injured Bendtner will play and Bendtner must stop making sill mistakes. All I can say now is that we have defended much better than our last few matches. Liverpool is a good team with a strong attack and we conceded only one goal and that is a remarkable thing. Wenger is praising Gerrard too much and I don't like it. NOw don't start a fight again Robin. Right now I'm seriously asking that motherfucker 'wenger'(not Arsene) to get his ass off this website. That shithead is a big pain in my butt. Another thing is that Ade has scored and that goal means a lot and those who criticized must be ashamed coz he is a good player. We canot afford to make silly mistakes and by mistakes I mean our defense. I agree we did defend well but it is these small things that matter a lot. I hope Wenger does not go for Ben Arfa coz he is not that good and I suggest that he buys an International team striker coz we need someone experienced. Moreoverwe could have bought Defoe. Jermaine Defoe is a world class player and just look what he has done for Portsmouth. He has been scoring in almost every single match. We do need him but like I said someone who can finish good. Truthfully if I tell you RVP has not played well since his comeback from injury and I just hope that nothing happens to Ade coz so many people are injured. That too our key players. Sagna, Eduardo, Rosicky and now Persie. If we had these four throughout the season then we could have been first easily with a big lead over Man Utd. I think we really need Rosicky back coz he is one of our star players. One thing I can tell is that we must use the same tactics we used during the beginning of the season. Changing the tactics can just change our style of play completely. It is really exciting to watch Arsenal play the last 10 min. coz they can change the game completely.

All blame on Mr. Wenger. He had money at his disposal but stubbornly refused to buy. NOw it is obvious that we need a bigger squad as most of the players look jaded and tired.
Also in every game we create a dozen chances but cannot convert one. If you want to win you need to convert at least every one out of two chances you get. Simple.

We were desperately unlucky again today but lets just wait and see what happens next week before we go trashing the squad and Wenger. Don't expect Wenger to get his chequebook out until 2010 because Highbury won't be sold until 2009. First priority is to be circumspect financially with our massive new stadium debt. Or do you want a prick like Abrahamovic to take us over? Wenger is being prudent and doing a superb job within the tight fiscal constrains he is wisely operating within. Accept it.

I just want to thank Wenger and his supporters for the pain THEY'RE putting many comitted and sincere fans who would have liked to win something this season through. I don't know maybe Denilson has annoyed Wenger. He'll do a better job than this stupid Bendtner. The guy shows clearly that he deserved more than the headbutt Adebayor gave him. What the f#ck is up with Bendtner He's about as clumsy as Senderos.The boys really played well just unlucky Liverpool didn't see sh#t the second half.Evryone played well(exc Eboue)Walott really impressed he should start, very hungry at the moment and looks like his hit some form which we def need.

screw back foot. All we need is kick some ass on Sat, leave them wit a couple of injures, Gerrard especially. Turn up @ Anfield to kick more ass.
They said they aint scared of Arsenal why have 10 men lined up on the goal line. Hopefully Agent Bendtner wont be kikin himself tis mornin. He could make up for wat happen on SAT or Tue.

We are truly out of luck this season with that obvious penalty decision that wasn't so obvious to the ref, he did have a good game but just what was he thinking? Also, the manner in which Gerrard got past Kolo suggests we need a more accustomed RB, maybe put Eboue back there might help; just didn't think his attacking display on the right helped us much. Unlike us Liverpool didn't get too many scoring opportunities so it is a credit to them that they got the away goal. I just wonder if Senderos could have done better on that, he should have cleared the ball before Kuyt touched it in my opinion if his positioning was a little bit better. Overall, we did control the game and if we dominate the possession again in the 2nd game (which I think we will since they'll be looking for 0-0 now), and be more efficient in front of goal, it'll be good luck to Liverpool!

Whoever told this Wenger guy that possesion and being unbeaten are more important than winning made a big blunder. If you notice, every game he commends the team for playing well when they are not winning!!! A way forward is needed and i think it should include firing the coach or adding depth in the squad and not being arrogant

Im proud of the way the team played yesterday good perfomance just that it wsa 1-1 dont forget liverpool will line up in the same way at anfield im confident that we can hammer them there because its simple they donot have enough quality to win against anyone in the top 4.. Ask them to try beat chelsea now they will get hammered becasue no one plays defensive football and wins .. Flukes are a part of life they had one lightning doesnt strike twice..

I think wenger is not a serious manager, because,he doesn't consider the feelings of the fans! He should stop being economical, because that will not bring us the title or the CL title, but quality players scoring goals will.
