Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has put his weight behind his friend and colleague Arsène Wenger by saying that European referees had unjustly treated Arsenal.
The Gunners had a clear-cut penalty turned down in the first-leg, only to have been harshly punished in the second leg after defender Kolo Touré had hauled down Liverpool winger Ryan Babel.
Houllier said: "From a personal point of view I was happy Liverpool won but I also felt for my friend Arsène because over the two legs he deserved at least as much to win as Liverpool.
"To me it was a clear-cut penalty in the first leg and then one was given against them in the second leg. That's why he was not happy.
"At the top level a decision like that can make you or break you.
"But both teams showed marvellous qualities. They were two very good Champions League encounters and excellent promotion for the game itself.
"The attitude and the fair play was fantastic."

We can cry all we want but there is something missing from our team at the moment. How many times have we scored and then cant see out the next 10 minutes? The teams needs a few quality players to join us in the summer.... Let Senderous go on loan or sell him

Why do we persevere with Senderos, we only have two proper central defenders, Toure was wasted at full back, Eboue or Hoyte could've played there, and then Theo could've started. Must buy central defender in Adams/Keown mould.

The ref wanted Liverpool to win simply because he probably enjoyed watching Liverpool when he was younger, refs and neutrals all over the world tend to back Man Utd or Liverpool against Arsenal because they got more European pedigree, their seen as more famouse. Thats wrong, its cost us big time, but then again I really think if Sagna had of played we would have gone through. Senderos wouldnt have played, Toure or Gallas would never allow anyone that freetime in the penalty area, unbelievable.

We are just not good enough, admit it guys. All cheaters will not go very far as Liverpool will be eliminated by Chelski for sure. This time it's Chelski v Man U. As long as Wenger continues with his buying policy we will never win anything.

OK - foul referees cost us. BUT they tried bloody hard and lost both games through weak positions and fatigue. I am hundred percent certain that he Prof will deal with those for next season. BUT my best news is that Dennis is taking coaching badges in Holland - I would love him to come to us...
