Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp could be making a return to football after retiring from the game.
Bergkamp began his playing days at Ajax, joining the club at the age of 12 and going on to score 122 goals in 239 first team games before leaving for Inter Milan in 1993.
He subsequently went on to become one of the greatest players to play in the modern game when he joined Arsenal.
Despite saying that he wasn't looking to return to football after he retired, Bergkamp has admitted that he is itching to get involved again and has been offered a trainee coaching role at Ajax.
van Basten said: "I called Dennis a few weeks ago, because I wanted to know how he was doing and if he would want to do something for Ajax, in whatever capacity.
"It is important to work with as much quality as possible with Ajax and it is obvious that Dennis has qualities. In our conversation, Dennis said that he would come to Holland to take the [professional football] coaching course.
"Part of that course is that the participants enter a traineeship. I offered him a trainee post and he was very interested. I hope and expect that this will be good for Ajax and for Dennis.
"I think he can make players better. His presence will have an impact on the team. For Ajax as a whole it is also good that someone of Dennis' stature is involved with the club. At Ajax, Dennis can discover how he likes it to be on the pitch in a different role."

With all due respect to Pat Rice, I would like to have him as a Technical director and Tony Adams and Dennis Bergcamp as assistant managers. Both of them have been loyal to the club and great players. I liked Tony Adams as a TV pundit for he is so well spoken and soft mannered. And he is learning his job at Portsmouth. The two of them are my first choice for Arsenal XI of all times.

Great new to hear Dennis is coming back into football
One of the greatest players to wear an Arsenal shirt
I hope once he gets his qualifications he is offered a job at Arsenal as he could teach the young players so much, not only about football but about loyalty and respect. He was the ultimate professional
Nice to see you back Dennis
