Gilberto: United not better than Arsenal

Midfielder Gilberto Silva is adamant that champions Manchester United are not better than Arsenal, who finished four points behind them in the league.

The Gunners had led the league for most of the season and fell away at the end, allowing United and Chelsea to slip through and contest the league title on the final day of the season.

But the Brazilian World Cup winner is adamant that his side deserved to be league champions.

He said: "Overall you cannot say that Manchester United were the best team. What made the difference were the last results and they finished in a better position.

"We know our quality and what we are capable of. We are stronger than them and next year we need to do much better than what we did this season.

"We will enjoy our holidays and think about what we have done and come back next year even stronger.

"We were very close in the league but things happened to us which were very difficult and that is why we lost first position in the league."

Gilberto's right, this season arsenal have been so unlucky, the birmingham game, the middlesborough game and the chelsea one! All so unlucky! Then we totally dominate the Man U game and they get a penalty and a freekick then thats it, we were definately the better team this season. Apart from bad luck the only poor games we played was the totenham one in the Carling Cup and man u one in the FA cup.

Well, and you are a typical ignorant red devil too. We sufficiently showed that we had more than one plan this season. Its just that there were simply too many injuries and the team just could not cope with so many first team players injured. I will concede that United were the better team though, United have great quality in depth throughout the squad and Arsenal just did not have that kind of quality and experience to match.

This is nonsense. Overall, over the whole season, Man U obviously were the better team, otherwise they wouldn't be champions. We shouldn't fool ourselves into thinking we are 'overall' just as good as Man U. Not quite. And I am a true gooner.

i think he is 100% right arsenal played the better football all through the season they always do. man u and chelsea play no good football. all man u do is rely on ronaldo to do something other they won't and chelsea just punt it up to drogba!!!

Very true. We are still the best as far as I'm concerned. Arsenal is like fine wine; they get better as they grow older. 2008-09 will be our season.

I am not sure if all credit must go to Fergie for being a good manager, I believe that the size of his budget just like Chelsea's has a phenomenal impact including the outcome on the pitch. So if Arsene competes with these two on his mediocre kitty then it is difficult to conclude that Fergie is the better manager because you can actually see where other managers with small budgets belong on the premiership log.

I agree with Mr Silva, we are better than United, i mean yes they did win the title and are about to contest the champions league final against Chelsea and that proves they are a very good team, as are Chelsea, but to be quite honest when we are on the top of our game we can play rings round both teams as we could all the other teams in the league,we play the most attractive football in
Britain and thats the kind of football only utd,chelsea and all the other teams in Britain dream of playing. So Gilberto is absolutely right, utd are not as good as the gooners.

It can't be luck for M Unite to win the league. They have also suffered from poor ref. decision and been deprived of well-deserved penalities. It is a long term battle for a league champion. So, please be graceful.

Typical gooner comment.

United were a better team than the Arses, you couldn't stand the heat and fell apart. That's what makes champions. The fact that arsenal won the last few games means nothing since there was no presure and nothing to play for.

UTD play attractive attacking football, and also find the back of the net. Arsenal play with one plan, and when it don't work they run out of idea's.

Not only are UTD the better team but Fergie has proved yet again that he is by far the best manager in the league.
