Gilberto: New players will motivate squad

Midfielder Gilberto Silva says that any new addition to the Arsenal squad will motivate the current crop of players.

The Brazilian international was urging his manager to seriously consider making a move in the transfer market for some established and experienced players, complementing his young charges' raw talent.

The World Cup winner also commented on his own future, saying that he is intending on staying at the club and fighting for a first team place.

Gilberto said: "I think Arsène Wenger needs to bring in some players to compete with the other big teams.

"They have many more players than us. It has been hard for us to fight the other teams because they are a lot stronger and more competitive.

"I think one of the biggest jobs is to keep everyone happy and motivated at Arsenal. Although we played some good football, we didn't win anything.

"I have no idea exactly what is going to happen. But I want to stay at Arsenal as I have one year left."

I disagree with those who keep saying you got to pay high wages, to those like Flamini to keep them. Im sure the likes of Thierry Henry, Vieira, Pires and Lungberg did not hit the high wages until they won something and consistenly performed season after season. So to hell with those who think like Flamini just another money grabber.

We are in this financial position because Arsene wanted a bigger stadium. The club has supported him and I think it is time he delivered. Being runners up and 3rd place is simply not good enough. Adebayor can leave. He reminds me of Henry. Both think they are too big for the club.

I agree with Bert. I'm hoping that we sign a powerful and aggressive centre back, and a top striker. Even if Adebayor stays, we need a further striker. We must remember what happened with injuries this past season. Imagine if either Adebayor or Bendtner was sidelined for some time. Given the Van Persie is likely to be injured again during 2008/9 this will leave us very thin with strikers with a proven goal scoring record. We have to score more goals as well as concede further if we hope to improve on our 3rd place.

I agree that when new players comes in the current players will be motivated in fighting for a place in the starting line-up! And another thing is that we have too little talent in arsenal. There are lots of players but little talent. I think that eboue should go back to his right back position
