Spain has made it to the finals in spite of Aragones. However, it proves one of the philosophies of tournament football – put your best and most experienced on the pitch and leave them to it.
France did that and left after 3 games, Italy did that and bored their way out. The jury is still out but we all know which one is more exciting. But Spain's best and experienced players are still young so it works in Aragones' favour.
Fabregas is a high-grade lubricant that allows machine part to work as best as they can. If there are good players on the pitch Fabregas can get them performing at their best if they are hungry.
When Silva had the ambition to run in the box and when Guiza took the chance to make move on a tight offside line, Fabregas found them.
Arshavin is reported to be worth £20M. He would have noted that he would have done so much better if Fabregas was playing for Russia. He would have noticed just how much better he would be in a team with Fabregas in. He would have noticed that he could make Fabregas score and Fabregas could make him score.
Arshavin can go to Barcelona and find himself on a bench after a while if he gets signed as a playmaker. If he comes to Arsenal as a general utility player who can support Fabregas he could make a much bigger difference and win a trophy. Basically, Arshavin can weaken Barcelona or make no difference there but he could strengthen Arsenal.
Germany will not be easy for Spain. Germany are seriously motivated and relentlessly determined. Germany will also attack Spain from various angles (exactly what I think Arshavin would add to Arsenal – variation).
Spain will not survive by keep-ball in midfield – not against Germany. If Spain is to win, they must play 4-4-2 because Germany – this Germany team – only knows how to play to win and Spain must do the same. And of course, Fabregas has to play if Spain is to win.

Well Arshavin will suit Arsenal; since rvp is injured most of the time and wenger likes a supporting striker with ball control to play along side ade/hisreplacement he could be an instant hit. Hey maybe he could also cheat on us after couple of years

i think 20 m is a bit too much for a player who has just had a good tournament!
germans will be the toughest test, they got the skill ,the physique and the stamina...it will be very very tough for spain

Great points. Cesc the Orchestrator. I generally agree altho am not sure we need to break the bank on Arshavin who will cost huge amounts. Assuming Ade will definitely stay, AW should perhaps be looking to bolster midfield with a replacement for Flamini, say YaYa Toure?! A bit of final tinkering with defence and things can only get better over last season.

You're all right.
If he want to win the trophy, Aragones must play Cesc.
If Arshavin and Nasrijoin the team, Im confident we'll win finally win trophies

Fabregas is a world-class player and is probably one of the players of the tournament for the contribution he has made in getting Spain to the final, despite being a substitute in all but their dead rubber against Greece!
However, one must also understand and appreciate Aragones' selection headache and forget our bias towards Cesc a little bit! After all, Aragones plays a system, 4-4-2, and was content in putting that system all the way to the final. His first choices down the centre appear to be the more experienced campaigners, Puyol, Marchena at the back and Xavi and Senna through the centre of the park, and so that would've naturally meant that Cesc would usually just come off the bench. At the end of the day we cannot argue that Xavi and Senna aren't grea players either, or that Aragones doesn't think that Cesc is a good player, of course he does! Now against Germany, I agree with you on that Spain would probably have to play a bit of 4-4-1-1 which can change into 4-5-1, a bit like they did since Cesc came on against Russia last night, if they are to win the tournament, and so Cesc might have his chance then.

I don't like to disagree with Joel so much, but these last few posts?!?
I agree Cesc has to play from the start if Spain is to beat the Germans, but I also believe that the Spanish have a pretty good formation and don't really need to go 4-4-2. The goals were well spread yesterday and that says enough. The Spanish have a left-legged Rosicky in Silva, and almost all their midfielders can score. It will certainly be less easy for the Germans to tackle seven potential goal scorers than two strikers.
And Arshavin? He has more to gain by coming to Arsenal than Arsenal have to gain buying him. And I'm glad you kinda implied that in your post. Arshavin and Russia are out now. We can focus on other things.
