Fabregas praises Spanish mental strength

Fabregas praises Spanish mental strength

By Jonathan Chong on Friday, June 27, 2008

Midfielder Francesc Fabregas praised his team mates' mental strength after helping Spain reach the final of the European Championship.

Fabregas only came on as a substitute in the second half but played a pivotal role in the last two goals.

He said: "There are always doubts in Spain. It is the first time I think we have gone through a semi-final to the final and nobody was expecting us to be where we are now.

"We've had difficult moments, but we've shown great mental strength and togetherness. That is the key."

When asked if he was ready to come on as a substitute again in the final, he maintained his calm professionalism that belies his young age, and simple said: "I am here when the manager needs me."

He came on in the 1st half, btw, when David Villa had to be taken off the pitch.

Fabregas came on in the first half. But he is obviously the best midfielder in Spain and him and Xavi, despite what was claimed, are not Lampard and Gerrard and worked wonderfully together.

C'mon Jonathan, didn't you watch the game? Fabregas came in for Villa in the first half, not the second, and he completely changed the complexion of the game. Two assists and a wonderful strike at goal that Akinfeyev batted over the bar. He should be starting the game for spain for sure.
Oh yeah, Arsharvin? Who's that?
