Manager Arsène Wenger praised new signing Aaron Ramsey's performance against Barnet yesterday and then hinted that the 17-year-old midfielder might play a key-role next season.
The Gunners were 1-0 down at half-time but managed to rescue the match by scoring two goals in the second half.
Wenger said: "Ramsey did OK. He looked a bit tired because he works very hard, of course it's a big change for him, but he did OK.
"He is in the plans like all the players today. It depends on the performances and their quality and you could see that some young players could be very close to the first team.
"We had two departures (last week) but two players came in so, number wise, we are level.
"I think in the future he will be a central midfielder.
"How is down to him and down to us on how well we work with him.
"In my mind though there are no restrictions on his development because he has played a lot already."
The Frenchman also expressed his delight at winning the race to sign Ramsey from Cardiff City. Ramsey turned down Manchester United when he chose Arsenal.
Wenger added: "We watched him throughout the whole season.
"We were always on the case, but unfortunately we weren't the only ones because Liverpool, Man United and Everton were strongly behind the case.
"It was a big satisfaction for us that we were able to beat these teams to signing him."

Ramsey has got to play in Flamini's position because Denilson is just so slow and unreliable, wethere as holding or attacking midfielder
The idea of Ramsey sharing the responsibility with diaby who is more physically present (but lazy) might work for some setups .
Denilson is just sleeping on the job, please wenger drop him. He fits italian not english football

I think Wenger should sign Robert Green as a goal keeper, Julien Lescot for central defendence and let Gllas go to PSG and Gareth Barrry for our inexperienced midfied and sign Dean Ashton to boost our striking department. With atleat two of these signings, Arsenal will have the English spirit of fighters and our beatifull game will bring us cups at the end of the season.

Alot of people have run us down for the performance against Barnet - to all those that have please remember that the likes of Theo havent played football in weeks - and the likes of Cesc, Ade and Rvp are still on holiday - i think with Nasri, Eduardo and Rosicky returning we will be a major force next season!! its not all doom and gloom! Helb was all dribble and no end product - we will move on like we always do!!

Hi to all you gunner supporters out there.Just joined the Arsenal-Mania today and am happy to express my views. I start from Mr.Wenger.If a trophy is not won this year, then its time to go Mr.Wenger. Mr.Hleb. cost us games because he didnt know how to score. Flamini was a try hard with no technique so he didnt deserve to play in a quality team like Arsenal. Gilberto was to old. So now it is time to sign Mr.Goran Pandev from Lazio. He is a quality left winger/striker who scored twice against Real Madrid in the champions league last campain and was top scorer for Lazio last season.Very similar player to Eduardo.

I WATCHED THE BOY RAMSEY VERY CLOSELY IN THE MATCH, AND I FEEL HE HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A VERY GOOD ARSENAL PLAYER; WILTSHIRE LOOKS CLASS, AND IS ONE FOR THE FUTURE, THEO NEEDS TO STEP UP!! PLEASE ARSENE, BUY SOMEONE LIKE SERGIO RAMOS FOR THE BACK TO SUPPORT WIL-I-AM GALLAS, AND KOLO, I FEEL CARLOS VELA WILL BE A GOD.

A good start to his career with us. The best on show in the first followed by another impressive display by Jack Wilshere in the second. Both look very mature and strong for so young.

I must comment the Gunners for their effort in the Barnet game especially the young lads. Ramsey sure looks a good prospect who could make the first team pretty soon if he continues to work on his stamina. That said, I'll like to remind us that pre-season games are not usually enough to judge a team's ability to sustain till end all the rigours of the new season. As we all know that we had an excellent pre-season for 2007/ 2008 and we lost the steam at the business end of that season. It will be nice if Wenger add some more quality to blend with these guys in order to avoid last season's experience.

simon_84. ramsey is not a winger and has never been a winger. He was simply played there due to the expierence of gavin rae and stephen mcphail. Even though he has undoubtless ability as he is showing, you must remember that he couldnt actually get into the cardiff starting XI. Give him time and he will become a major player for arsenal, he suits them perfectly with his exceptional technical prowess and his ability to play across the midfield as well as right back and behind the strikers.

trust Arsene to do whats right for the club, look at the quality we have, aqnd that's coming through. we could maybe do with a little more experience but that's for ArsenE to decide. keep the faith

Seeing him at Barnet yesterday I have to say he was really, really impressive. Good vision and was always moving. Can agree he did look tired at the end of the half though.
Ready for the first team? Maybe, but at very least ready for the bench.

I would like to say well done to the good boy. He is our future and quality football. BUT AW NEED TO GIVE TIME AND LOOK FOR OLDER BUT AVERAGE PLAYERS TO REPLACE FILAMINI AND ALSO PROBLEMS OF CENTRAL DEFENCE. I AM'T CONFIDENT OF GALLAS AND SENDROS.

1-0 down at half time to a team that was non-league just a few seasons ago - is this what we have to look forward to this season becuase Wenger can't handle experienced players? incidentally I can name 3 Ex-Arsenal player that left this summer, all experienced international's being replaced by another 2 kids...get buying Arsene-if this season doesn't bring at least 1 major trophy (not the Carling Cup!) then thanks very much but its time to try something different.
