Nasri reveals late Lyon bid

Nasri reveals late Lyon bid

By Jonathan Chong on Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Winger Samir Nasri has revealed why it took him so long to sign for Arsenal.

It was initially thought that a combination of the European Championships and accounting matters at his former club prevented the French international from formally agreeing terms with Arsenal, despite prematurely announcing on his personal website that he had decided to sign.

Nasri also now admits that there was a late bid from Lyon, but he had already made his mind up by then.

Nasri said: "Lyon made an approach. I spoke with president (Jean-Michel) Aulas by telephone. But it didn't go much further than that.

"At that point my choice had practically been made. I'd given my word to Arsenal and I couldn't see myself at any French club other than OM (Marseille)."

Meanwhile, manager Arsène Wenger is optimistic about striker Eduardo da Silva being availalble for selection in three to four weeks.

Right...so that phone conversation lasted a month did it? Haven't seen much of him. I just hope he lives up to the hype.

BTW, it means that Eduardo will be back in England in three/four weeks. Not available for the team...that should be changed...

sounds a classy guy, we'll see. btw, we didn't lose steam as result of eduardo's injury, we we're losing form ever since the home game against birmingham city, which was a shyte game, eduardo played fine but we we're toothless, we looked tired. insufficient squad depth. with current squad plus one star coming in i say we start well and fade away at the end, same as last year. we just don't have the horses to compete for trophies, patience indeed.

I agree that match where Eduardo was injured was a turning point. Eduardo is more efficient than Ade and therefore is the type of striker that Arsenal needs.

I wish Nasri an exciting career at the Emirates. The greatest news I have had in recent time is the availability of Eduardo in the next three or four weeks. This is great news. I wish him an excellent, injury free and rewarding 2008/09 sesson. We actually lost our steam because we lost him to Taylor's tackle.
