Manager Arsène Wenger was satisfied with his team's 1-0 win against West Brom, with new signing Samir Nasri scoring the decisive goal in the fourth minute.
The Gunners often made life difficult for themselves and shadows of last season's performances went a long way from reassuring Gooners that there has been some improvement in the squad.
Despite dominating for the majority of the match, they failed to carve out many clear-cut chances and it was the opposition that came closer to breaking the deadlock.
But Wenger said: "We always looked in control and I always thought the second goal would come.
"But West Brom defended very well and we lacked a bit of sharpness around the box. Credit to West Brom.
"If the second does not come you can be punished in the last 10 minutes. But Samir Nasri had a good game and we are happy with the three points."

God please deliver us fm this.wenger please wake up.what kind of spell has adebayor cast on you.the guy is just wasteful, thinks hes better than every one,has a huge ego and is one of our highest paid players?i can't believe this.even arsenal fans in his neighbouring ghana dnt even like him.pple have given up on us cos of him.he never learns to get better, always building his ego.u shld hav exchanged hleb for yaya toure nd shipped adebayor off for all that money.amaury bischoff=waste.our team looks frail.gallas is waste too old and has a big ego.if you dnt add quality nd the transfer window closes,we will fail misserably.imagine denilson against the likes of essien and ballack.he'll get toasted.12yrs nd i think i'am getting fedup now.u give ade 80000 nd cant even match acs 60000 for flamini?professor ur theories are beginning to look like a failure.no one understands you anymore.i hope u prove me wrong mr wenger

Wenger needs to do something very urgent so as to improve on our third place finish of last season. With the way things are right now, the best finish would be fourth or fifth. Adebayor started in his usual manner-very very wasteful. If he had scored half of the chances created for him, we would have won the game with a margin of 4 goals. Wenger needs to sign a prolific goal scorer whom Adebayor can learn from. It is better for a player like Adebayor to learn from the bench. Arsenal can not afford another trophyless season as a result of Adebayor's wasteful nature. We need an excellent goal scorer. Wenger, please do something!!!

Same old story of not converting clear and begging chances. But for Nasri, Denilson, Djourou and ever hardworking duo of Clichy and Sagna, we would have recorded our worst start to the season in years. Pls Wenger save Arsenal by adding experience to the squad else, no surprise if we end the season empty handed again.

YES, i agree with most of you guys that Wenger must sell Adebayor and buy Villa, Alonso, and a good CB using this money before the window is closed. Otherwise we will end up 4th if we are lucky enough come may 2009. In replacing Ade, we have a fast-improving Bendtner, who has better first touch, better vision, unselfishness when chances come, and great header, so why we still need Ade? Look at him in this game, it reminded me of what he did at Birmingham which eventually cost our title last term. Can't dribble, can't shoot on target one on one with keeper, what a fool!
We need a David Villa because I don't think Eduardo would ever come back to his previous level although I really wish he could; Alonso is spanish and can link up really well with Cesc; a 3rd CB is a must; Eboue is improving too. You saw him start shooting when he had chances. That's a good sign, sooner or later he would put some balls into the net. He is OK at the defensive midfield position, but only against West Brom. He has to prove he is capable when dealing with Chelski, who is our main rival this year.

Nasri4eva you 100% correct in saying ade is selfish, bt i dont blame ade completely for his disgusting performances, performances that disgrace all previous arsenal strikers. Ian Wright needed half a chance and would score a hatrick, same as henry or bergkamp, ade needs 10 chances at an open net only to scuf his shot and deflect it onto the post. Wenger is also at fault for persisting in him and not seeing him for exactly wat he is. not gud enuf.

I like the way Nasri fits into the team. But I still hate the fact that we are still too rubbish in attack and defense. We need to BUY someone that is good and experienced. With the current squad I predict we will finish 4th and trophyless again. Chelsea too strong and Liverpool is improved. Where do we go????

I agree with u, same arsenal, same Ady wasting clear cut chances, same eboue who have nothng to lose, same Wenger who like cheap things & i guess ths season will be so tough to us, i don't even thnk of finishing top 4 may 5 or 6 if Wenger can't do anythng now. We luck seriousness in our board & coach altogether. Wenger it seems to me tht ur time has already overtaken by event. I feel so disappointed by ur way of taking thngs.

a man says: it will take 5 years for me to build this building
if the crowd stand year after year saying you are failing, is that fair?

Adebayor was a waste of Money. Now Wenger has to dish out £80,000 on this man EVERY WEEK. Gosh! Also I wonder why Vela wasn't brought in when what was needed most was someone who can penetrate the box like him. No fault with defence and midfield. Denilson was GREAT!!!
Problem with Arsenal is WENGER. Over pampers the central sriker who will eventually fail (first Henry in last two seasons, Now Adebayor). If Adebayor had done this in Italy or Spain, he'll have been hewed in the papers this morning. V. Persie's past it in Arsenal.
But if the attack is consolidated, Arsenal do shooting practice, Adebayor is brought in as a sub more to deflate his ego, Arsenal will destroy all comers. BUT AT THIS RATE IT'LL BE GREAT FOOTBALL BUT NOT SILVERWARE-AGAIN!!! (Really beginning to get tired of all this)

Wrong site chorizo Charlie....
Barcalona get no love here. Its all about the Arsenal. 3 points is 3 points. A win is fine weather its 1-nil or 100-nil (although 100-nil will rule out losing the league on goal difference I guess :-)

I don't understand why Eboue played in the middle and what was the purpose of Toure substitution. I was expecting to see Vela (at least substitution) but i had to bear Adebayor and his lazy shots. Unfortunately, i 've said this before,Ade has big mouth but in the pitch we want to see more from him. Once again the opposition box was empty because our strikers want to play outside dribbling etc I don't understand this strategy our team uses for the last four seasons. Our favourite coach has to understand that with this strategy we haven't won anything the last years. Great Djourou but poor Gallas. He has to show us more as a Gunner Captain. Guys Nasri has skills, he showed it and i think we are going to see great things in the near future. Hleb bye bye.

congrats all, we started our season with a win thats good, Nasri was fantastic, the hole team was alright but i'm concerned about the defence, we need someone good or at least a good back up in defense and in medfield, fabregas can't play the hole season, ramsey still young, i promise u gunners we're gonna win every sinle cup and tournament this year if we signed 2 players one in defense and one in medfield.... congrats again... viva Arsenal

Can anybody convince me that this team/game is different than last season?
No not at all this team is same of last year.. Same Adabayor waisting 3 or 4 clear cut chances.. Same Ebou dont know what to do with the ball.. Same type of win with lucky one goal.. Couldnt kill the game.. Same injury list .. With this team we are living in fool's paradise.. we will win nothing with this team.
So sorry my dear Gooners

Honest r we kidding our self or what!! We wont win anything this year, if we don’t add fire. i hate to say but come on Wagner 4 years and you making same mistake ..He said that when a player reach 30 usually he doesn’t except someone telling him his time is don.. When does a manager know his time is up!!i love Wagner but i want a trophy with him or without him. i pay lots of money for my ticket and i want to win something bottom line.

yeh maybe we would score the second goal if adebayor didnt have a first touch that was as big as a horse, selfish player, wnats goals for himself, sell him or dont play him, samir nasri i think fulfilled everyones expectations, and im happy that pout goes hleb and in comes nasri, hleb scores 10 goals for 3 seasons at arsenal and nasri firts game in premier league and scores, and nasri actually shoots, this boy will be the future along with cesc, but adebayor is not in this equation, hes a big oaf and the only thing thats bigger than his first touch is his ego

FANTASTIC debut for Nasri. Decent performance by the the team. Should have had the game wrapped up by scoring a second, we were far to wasteful. Just got one thing to say: Nasri and Fabregas are going to be very exciting!!!!!!!!
