Manager Arsčne Wenger was pleased with the debut of his one major summer signing, Samir Nasri, and said that the French winger's style of play was similar to another Arsenal legend - Robért Píres.
Nasri's Algerian descent has prompted comparisons with the great Zinedine Zidane, but the French international has asked for these comparisons to stop, and that he is his own individual and player.
But Wenger could not help but liken Nasri to the departed Píres, a favourite amongst the fans.
He said: "He has a bit of [Robert] Píres in him maybe, because he looks to be able to change direction very easily.
"Nasri had a bad season last year because he had meningitis, he was in hospital for two weeks, then did not recover properly for three months.
"They rushed him back to play and of course he was not at the expected level.
"However, the year before everybody wanted him, sometimes you have to be brave enough when everybody says he is not good.
"I saw him start his first game and he gave me an impression that you keep with you, and when you see things you have to go with your beliefs."

i think nasri will b a better player than pires coz pires takes 1 year to adapt, whereas nasri takes 4 minutes to score an opening goal for arsenal this season. hahahah...

This is a lie! The boy is nowhere near Robert Pires. He may get there but not now. As for getting to be like Zinedine Zidane, forget it!

gael is a good friend of his, i don't foresee any problems for the two of them playing down at that left flank.

Samir nasri is good but the professor must give him many games to boost his confidence at the big stage when teams like man united or liverpool come knocking. If he combines well with gael then he will be great.
