Manager Arsène Wenger has heaped praise on midfielder Denilson, whom many feel is the replacement for the departed Mathieu Flamini.
What's been seen of Denilson has impressed some Arsenal fans, and Wenger is confident that given time and space, the Brazilian will develop into a player who can succeed at the highest level.
Wenger said: "It's always difficult to assess at the start of the season how good Denilson will be but they can only develop if they play.
"It's a tricky situation, but we not only make results but we develop players as well. People want to see big names, but they also want to see good players."

A good squad player but not really the calibre of Midfielder we desperately need right now. Still, he's better than Eboue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can understand why Wenger is caught- personally I think in a year or 2 he will be world class- literally the best midfielder in the country- and Fabregas is likely to be off to Spain in another year. Denilson is very young and needs to play in order to improve - his mentality is good and he has good technique-however he is not yet physically strong enough to cope with the Chelsea or Man U midfield without a minder. This is why we need to break the bank to buy YaYa Toure.

I must admit there's no easy answer to the DM question. Do we risk falling behind before the january transfer window by trying out the promising players or buy an experienced midfielder...and stifle the development of denilson and diaby?
In a perfect world, I'd say buy experience and grow the youngsters slowly. But, sadly, Arsene has to choose.

Geez, shows what fans know...
Even Ferguson has praised Denilson in the past.... so here is a player that the 2 best managers in the league rate but is not good enough in the eyes of some fans.... pathethic, get behind the team, at least give him a chance.

i think denilson is a fantastic player but should deputise fabregas or play on the flank in a 4-5-1 formation rather than partner fabregas in midfield

i don't understand how so many people can write off denilson. he is an excellent player. last season everyone was saying denilson and cesc is the future, now it all changes because flamini had a good year. garbage. It's funny people forget how cesc and denilson destroyed all comers in the carling cup 2006.
yes he does need to be more aggressive, but the more he plays the more he will adapt.

Denilson is a quality player and he will mature into a fine footballer, but his gameplay is too similar to that of Cesc. He will be great cover for when Cesc is out/ not playing but he doesnt seem like he will be a DM, not this season anyway. The boy has a lot of bulking up to do before he occupies that kind of position. Diaby on the other hand...well i dont know why he's in the squad, very clumsy footballer!

I agree that denilson is more suited to the same role as fabregas but if you remember previous to last season flamini had a terrible season and Gilberto was our main DM. So i think we need to give denilson a chance to step up as well as diaby and see who can reign supreme. I think if we can fill that void and if arsene brings in another central midfielder to our squad with at least some experience then we will have just enough depth to the last season

everybody thought that flamini was a waste of space and he turned into the best cm player last year. and he is not exactly a heavy weight is he. give him a chance; as long as he is a busy dcm you cant doubt he has brain. latly he is getting stuck in. although we need another busy defensive centre midfielder. annan i think is his name. eboue done well as cover but is to erratic in front of goal and against quality sides like chelsea, barca etc you must score in those positions he got in. hopefully annan is bought and he can finish in front of goal unmarked with just a keeper to beat.

Denilson is not the ball winner that we need badly. He could deputy Fab4 I think.

Denilson is always bad placed! isn't he?
Against WBA he ran and did a good job for someone willing to figure in the first XI.
But he is NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! His skills may improve, but he is too light for such an important place as a DM for Arsenal.
Plus- Cesc needs someone to do this job well in order for him to be completely focused on his passes and attacking game. If Cesc has to defend too much then who's going to be fit enough to lead the way fabregas knows.
Think about that!

Denilson !!! If he was more lightweight he'd blow away. ABSOLUTELY NOT GOOD ENOUGH! - Good lord no! He has shown time and time again, chance after chance that like Diaby he is not going to 'make it' as a first choice Arsenal midfielder - a decent bench player/squad player but replacement for Flamini's 07/08 performance absolutely and categorically not. Think of him in terms of not our meagre and beleagured squad but against the likes of Alonso, Barry, Gerrard, Lampard and Ballack, Carrick, Teves, Mascherano, Anderson go on and on and on despite the odd deft touch he has not the spine and gravitas necessary for the top flight. Nice guy, good touch the odd time but a new Flamini - NO I hope not. Cesc deserves much much better than we are offering at the moment - watch out or we will lose him!

He is obviously a talented player, but is he strong enough to be a holding midfield player? I see him more in the fabregas role. Diaby fouls too much, he will break someones leg before he retires.
Neither of these players are capable of playing the holding role in the long term. We need to keep looking.

Denilson cannot play in DM IMO, that's why he can't be a partnership with Fabregas.

I thought Denislon has played very well both pre-season and against WBA.
The only doubt I have about him is that he seems to disappear late in the game if he plays the full 90 minutes. Hs he got a stamina problem ?
