Wenger: What's the problem with Silvestre?

Manager Arsène Wenger was yesterday perplexed at the commotion surrounding the signing of former Manchester United player Mikael Silvestre.

Arsenal fans worldwide are divided on the signing, with many saying Silvestre is not the player the club needs to revive its fortunes.

The manager then said that Silvestre might be a bit short on making his debut on Saturday against Fulham, as he tries to regain full match fitness after recovering from an injury.

When asked about why he made the signing, Wenger shrugged his shoulders and said: "They let him go and we took him.

"I felt Manchester United had made up their mind to let him go before we were interested, to maybe Manchester City or to France, so it was not necessarily us going in there and buying a player."

Wnger has totally lost hi mind. This guy is to comfortable at Arsenal. He hasn't won F***-All for years and he's still has exceptional backing of the Board. I think someone's got to have a firm word with him about his stupid useless and senseless policy or just sack his (so far for the last 3 - 4 seasons) incompetent arse

Wenger may be helping for the France. We have best players like Sol Campbell, Gilberto and so on why he did to forced them to let go away from. Because of they are 31, just I say Wenger became a Loooser to Gunners now. Plesase help Arsenal Wenger.

i believe pires and gilberto would surely deserve the 2 years extension in contract more than this guy.

No, there isn't any problem. Just one thing, Silvestre is 31 yet we give him 2 years contract. What the hell with that? We lose lots of good players because of Wenger's stubbornness to give players over 30 more than 1 years contract.!!!

its a weird sighning, against West Brom toure came on and was sort of on the right, then defensive midfielder, is that how its going to be now???Id rather we sighn an orthodox holding midfielder, play Toure and Gallas at the back, we'll see.

'They let him go, and we took him' its that the thinking of the managerial genius we have come to know? I was under the impression that the Professor might have had one eye on this potential coup and that he might have been stalling on making a defensive purchase, knowing that this might be an eventuality come mid-August. But to hear we took MS only because he became available is a let down. AW you deserve to give us a better explanation, for 50K a week of our money.

If he signed sillyvester jst bcz Man U let him go, why didn't he sign L.SAHA who need most thn silvester. Saha is a fighter n a gud finisher than Ady, bt Wenger didn't do n'thng 2 sign him. Silvester is so famous on scoring on goal or causing unneccessary penalties so far. Tht's y france droped him frm the squad. Wht's the different btwn him, hoyte, senderos n Djourou if played the same position. I fail completely 2 understand Wenger now a days. He rejected the bid 2 sell Ady 2 milan @ a gud price n bring D. Villa in tht position & nw it's obvious tht same Ady who misses 20 clear cut chances. U sold T. Henry n we need tht gap 2 be filled with the same calibre in order 2 win trophies n title. We love Wenger bt it seems he don't appreciates our love n passion 2ward him n our Arsenal fc. We need more goals n points. We need 2 show the world tht we are back 2 claim our titles n win CL. Plz wenger do s'thng...

Good signing Monsieur Le Professeur. You had your ears to the ground. Reading what Sir Alex said, he would not have allowed him to join us had Arsenal made the approach. I am assuming that they had agreed the price and had decided that he was going to join either Sunderland or Man City. Too late to say no since Arsenal were able to pay the money that was asked for. Genial! as the French would say.

Arsene really has stopped *knowing* .

I have never heard such a clueless reason for signing a player. Arsene Wenger and the Board are too comfortable on their sits and generally lack ambition and thats due to the idol worship that the fans have exalted Arsene Wenger to.

mr wenger rarely lets us down...but...robo pires-gilberto-freddy-to name but a few who were not getting more than a 1 year deal when they turned 30 then we get a manure reject who is already passed 30-picking up injuries all the time now-was a bit part player and he gets 2 years...the mind boogles.

The timing was just too perfect!!!!

It was ONLY when Silvestre was on his way to Manchester City(possibly on the motorway) that suddenly an interest became apparent - So says Wenger. Wenger must be in possession of a High-Tech Radar System. Quite an amazing story line!

I'm adament we(Arsenal) can count on our chances of silverware this time around. Please let's give Wenger and Silvestre the Support!

Arsenal needed an experienced player like mikel though his level was not that of the RED DEVILS..........
But any way it was not a bad purchase since the Gunns wanted experienced players and this will help in the competion between him, Gallas and toure. By the way Wenger knows what he is doing at least i trust him.

I think Mikael is not the type of player that could revive the fortune of the club. However,he is more matured and more experienced than Armand Traore as a cover for Gael Clichy in the event of an injury or suspension later in the season. He may also feature at centre back.

Nonetheless we need a charismatic defender and a dorminant holding midfielder before we can really contend for the title seriously.

Only a complete prat can't see this as nothing but a positive signing, experience, adaptability, pace, strength and a winners mentality. What more do people want? Last year the same toads that are moaning abouit this were moaning we didn't have neough experience, now we have that experience it's not good enough, WTF???
