Wenger: Cesc was fabulous

Manager Arsène Wenger has heaped praise on midfielder Francesc Fabregas, after the Spaniard 'energised' an Arsenal side who were accused of not having enough desire over the weekend.

Whilst his team mates scored the goals that saw the Gunners win 6-0 on aggregate overall, Fabregas was the fulcrum in a dynamic midfield that at times left their Dutch counterparts chasing shadows.

Wenger said: "Cesc brings calm and confidence to the side.

"Overall we had a good balance with him in the side.

"He could have stayed on, he was disappointed FC Twente didn't have a go because he always wants to test himself.

"I took him off because he has only just come back from the hamstring injury."

Fabregas is fabulous indeed, but remember the doubts when Viera left? So, let the other gems in squad blossom like he did, and not keep harping about needing new signings. Vela looks good in the match agst Newcastle, as did Song.

We have always known Fabrigas to be a fabulous player
and we see that Arsenal lacked initiatives without him. We also know the fact that Fabrigas is human and could get injured or fagged out. That is the more reason why Wenger needed another player of his mould plus a defencive minded midfielder to ensure we get the balance on event that Fabrigas is indisposed. Get us Arshavin and Barry on the dead of 31-8-08.

Why would you burden your best player with the captaincy? Just let him play his game, free from pressure. In my opinion Gallas is a fine captain.

If Arsenal want the League title this year then Fabregas MUST be injury free for the whole season and mentally strong enough to last the entire season. Without him Arsenal can forget about the title because Fabregas is Arsenal. Wenger is the doctor but Fabregas is the catalyse.

One would hope cesc doesnt get injured this year because it seems already a lot of reliance is being placed on his shoulders after an exodus of talented players have gone elsewhere. Sadly I don't see Arsenal emulating last years results even if we never won anything, we were around the mark and a few major injuries cost us dearly. I dont think there is enough in reserve this year to cope with the hectic program Arsenal will have. strange signings and lack of a top line player in the club will make things harder. Hopefully I am wrong but something tells me im right when so many fans think the same way.

Cesc has become our 'Bergkamp'/'Henry'/Vieria' one of those world-class players that make out team tick and without them we are not the same!!
