Wenger: Song can fill midfield void

Alex Song seems to be the answer to manager Arsène Wenger's central midfield problems, says the Frenchman who is keeping his options open with regards to who partners Francesc Fabregas in the middle of the park.

After saying that Denilson should grab the same opportunity - taking advantage of the injury suffered by Abou Diaby - the Frenchman is sending the same message to Song, who has impressed many quarters with his brief appearances for the club.

Wenger said: "Alex is capable of doing it.

"[When I signed him I liked] his personality, his technical quality, his composure, his strength in the one against one, the way he uses his body in the fight and, overall, his intelligence.

"He is a good centre back and he is a good central midfielder. I believe in him."

he's a bit slow on the turn but so long as he sits deep right in front of the back four, he should be decent enough.

The lad has been there when the boss was looking for an experience central midfielder. Is it a case of building up the minds of fans against not spending in the January window? This is not a disrespect to Alex but something seems to be wrong somewhere.
