Fabianski: I want to be number one

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has declared his intent and said that he wants to be the first-choice keeper at Arsenal.

Speaking to Sky Sports News after yesterday's Carling Cup win over Wigan Athletic, he said that his ultimate aim is to be number one, replacing current goalkeeper Manuel Almunia.

The Polish international was also nominated as captain last night, and said that he is looking forward to leading the team to Carling Cup glory and lifting that trophy for the club.

If that does happen, it will be Arsenal's first trophy since 2005.

With six clean sheets in his last 10 starts, Fabianski's performances have not gone unnoticed.

He said: "I was really really happy to be named captain and also I think it's a big honour to be a captain of that kind of team in this kind of club.

"We just want to win the Carling Cup now and I hope it is me who gets to lift the trophy. It is a long way until that though so I am just going to focus on the next game against Wigan.

"They are a really good team. They have had some good results already this season, and I have seen that they have a physical team, they have big boys in the squad. I am really looking forward to the game and I am really happy because it's a team from the Premier League.

"I am at the beginning - I hope - of my road at Arsenal. At the moment I am happy to be captain in the Carling Cup but I have to look forward and show the best of myself in every training session and every game."

This guy as the quality and ability to be up there with Casillas, Buffon and Seaman etc. He just needs to brush up aspects of his game, for example commanding his box and decision making. I see this lad going far.
