Young midfielder Jack Wilshere has been heaped with praise from all quarters after his amazing performance against Wigan Athletic.
The 16-year-old was at the heart of every Arsenal move, linking defence and attack.
Dad Andy, a plumber, told The Sun: "Jack has always loved playing football.
"We first took him to play for a local side near us in Hitchin. He was four but the coaches put him straight in with the Under-8 team."
Arsenal academy boss Liam Brady is confident Jack Wilshere won't let his Carling Cup success go to his head.
Brady, 52, said: "Jack's had a lot of publicity but he has his feet firmly on the ground.
"He really wants to make it and is a very dedicated young man.
"Jack is a bit special. He's lacking experience but has a very bright future.
"I've heard a few people say he reminds them of me and that's a bit of a compliment to me, because the kid is so talented. I'll certainly take that."
Team mate Jay Simpson, who was in the same team and Wilshere against Wigan and scored two goals, said: "Jack's a great talent. He came on the scene in pre-season and he's done really well.
"When he was away in Austria he played some great football and he's coming on well. He showed against Wigan what a good player he is."
