Morning all. Again the dust is settling on another classic night of cup football at Ashburton Grove, Jay Simpson has had his say. Although, this was before Spurs (who must be beginning to think they're really good, someone needs to give them a good slap) knocked out a weakened Liverpool side.

No doubt, Jermaine Jenas will be going on about how this result proves they're ready for the big 4 in a newspaper near you in the not too distant future.

Anyway, I quite liked what Jay had to say, this Carling Cup side are not respecting reputations and despite what certain people *cough* Ray Wilkins*cough* had to say about the way Arsenal use the tournament, it's been a great way to get people who normally wouldn't go (like my then 6-year-old cousin in 2003) into the ground and players that you might never normally see in an Arsenal shirt, playing in front of a full house.

See, on one hand I personally witnessed a team of youngsters play against Premier League opposition with skill, desire and bravery on Tuesday night, on the other you have a Chelsea team containing these players; Cudicini, Ivanovic, Alex, Belletti (Lampard), Bridge, Ferreira, Deco, Mineiro, Malouda, Drogba (Di Santo) and kalou. And they couldn't beat Burnley.

Why is that? Did they not respect the opposition enough maybe?

Anyway, enough of laughing at the Chelsea circus, we've got a game with Aston Villa two days away and if I was Arsène Wenger, I would be very tempted to play Carlos Vela from the beginning.

This boy has got it. As it is, I suspect that we will go with Diaby supporting Bendtner again. Villa have made life very tough for Arsenal in their two visits to our home, coming within 7 minutes of being the first team to win there in the very first league match played there.

And going even closer last year, with only Nick Bendtner's stoppage time equaliser rescuing a reeling Arsenal from defeat a week after the Birmingham fracas. So we won't be taking them too lightly, there has been a definite shift in attitude around the club of late, let's make sure we make that count when Saturday comes.

Yeah they beat us with drogba scoring 2 goals for them...What would they have done without Drogba playing? We out-played them in that match...we were just not lucky to win it.

Chelsea have been in cloud 9 for a few seasons now, its about time they got a reality check. They have absolutely no idea of the term sustainable growth, because they still need a Billionaire to balance of their books end of every financial year. To them players are pretty much commodities. So I would not really care too much about Ray Wilkins comments. In Wenger's Arsenal there is that human touch,In Wenger, we have someone who tells you to keep going because he believes in you and your ability. We might be a International club with one of the most enviable facilities and squad but Above everything else there is warmth within the club and everybody is welcome as long as they appreciate Football for what its meant to be played for.

pete borota,

our reserve side was missing fabianski, djourou, song, vela, and ramsey...so no...you did not beat the team that played on tuesday. Also, your team included the little known quantity, Didier Dog-balls. Nice try though

@ number 1:

Yes Chelsea DID beat our youth dream team...... but remember you had Drogba playing, so maybe you should not be on an Arsenal site trying to convince Arsenal fans that our youth were anything short of fantastic. Another year and your hideous team STILL can't buy the quadrupal. BYE BYE!

Just a small point here, before too much gloating. Only a short while ago Chelsea reserves beat your dream team 3-2 at your place.

However one thing I will agree with you is that Scolari should have played the ressies. Like Arsenal there are a number of talented player st that deserve a platform like the Carling cup.

Scolari should take a leaf out of Wengers book, if they lose doesn't matter if they win it builds confidence.
