Wenger disappointed with performance

Manager Arsène Wenger was disappointed with the performance shown by his team in the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

The Gunners came crashing back down to Earth with an inept display against the Villains and never looked like winning, let alone scoring a draw.

Wenger said: "The performance was not good but it was the kind of game where you can win 1-0. Could we have lost the game in the first half? Yes.

"But we lost it today when we should not have lost it anymore. At that moment we were closer to winning it.

"It was the kind of game where you cannot afford a mistake at the back and I believe we were punished because of that.

"We were a bit unlucky as well on the first goal because we have Bacary Sagna who is down after getting injured.

"I believe as well for the second goal there was a blatant foul on Carlos Vela on the edge of their box. Instead of having a chance to play 1-1 we are then 2-0 down.

"The referee could have stopped the play but I don't complain because of that. We scored an own goal, Villa didn't score the goal.

"That is football, how can you explain the performance of Villa last week against Middlesbrough and the performance they produced today?

"It is the same. Top level performance is consistency. At the moment we are not consistent enough to be produce that kind of performance week-in week-out.

"You have to accept that the game is played by human beings and sometimes physically they have a drop. It is very difficult for us to have a rational explanation about what happened today.

"I believe that the team want it but it was just like a few other times this year where it is unexplainable why we don't really play at our 100% potential."

Wenger should stop all his excuses. I wonder why Wenger has refused to fortify the team. How can a coach in the mould of Wenger rate the performance of Bendtner against ManU outstanding? He needs to get rid of Gallas, Bendtner and their likes in the team. Arsenal needs a solid back; the likes of Clichy to effectively work with the poor guy. He needs a safe hand that Almunia could deputise for. He needs strong and commanding midfielders to wake up our darling Fabregas. He needs a prolific striker that Ade can also learn how to score from. Enough of Bendtner, confusionist Gallas and nonsensical Wenger football. Enough of heart attacks!!!!

The fans are disappointed by the managers team selection.

The team is fine. the management of it is very poor.

There is total disregard to players knocking on the first team's door. Vela, Ramsey, Wilshere, Djourou, Song and even Kolo Toure. What on earth is going on?

Wenger's two central defenders - Gallas and Silvestre are not even good for a netball team with a purpose.

I'm very down why Arsenal can not maintain the winning mentality for a moment a bit longer? I said it is always like that after beating AC Milan we were beaten by a small team, I remember the invicible right now it is difficult to do that.

Also Arsene should have kept Gilberto there is no defensive midfielder.
