Gallas stripped of captaincy, offered to resign

Defender William Gallas has been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy and dropped from the squad facing Manchester City today.

Sky News are reporting that the armband has been temporarily given to goalkeeper Manuel Almunia.

Gallas reportedly also offered his resignation but manager Arsène Wenger had already taken the decision to drop Gallas from the squad and relieve him of all responsibilities as a captain.

I like WG as a player. He is one of the few who seem to give a cr@p about the club. He showes passion and bottle and this is exactly what the current crop is missing. Hull, Stoke and Fulham happened because they played with heart unlike us. Agree though that he should not have gone public. Not sure if it is because players like RVP do not seem to take in any internal criticism.
Its time to fight back and show the world why we are ARSENAL!

To be honest, he had some good leadership qualities, He is a fighter, he wants to win unlike some people in the squad. :s
But he always blames everyone else, can't handle losses, even though they sometimes are his fault. And he has this incredible ego saying that he's much better than all those youngsters. That's not that we need right now. Gilberto shouldn't have left at all, why did he leave him? for that little amount of money we got? He would've been there when needed.
Gallas is always there when everyone is performing well, and the team is winning. A true leader will guide the team through good AND bad moments.

And I'm sorry, but there is NOBODY in our squad who is a good leader. BUY A LEADER, we have the potential.
People keep on saying we have no experience, true. But we still can win, what is lacking? LEADERSHIP.
1 good leader and we win the Premier League, mark my words...
By the way, a leader is likable.

To be honest im really happy. The way he acted at birmingham last season (okay, it wasnt a penalty but no need to behave like that, cap!), the talkin behind our backs, that friggin SMOKING incident...that man's no arsenal captain. Id say toure to replace him as skipper. no man better ATM. almunia messes up sometimes, himself, and clichy/sagna/fabregas all still a bit too young. I just wish we still had gilberto or vieira....

About time too. He should have been replaced at the start of the season after his B'ham antics. Problem is however the lack of leadership experience in the squad. Who would you pick?? Almunia is actually the closest to having the authority but in my opinion the one who wears his shirt with pride in every single game, giving 100% right to the final second, Gael Clichy, should be given the band. Another choice is Cesc but I don't know whether he could burden the armband just yet (even Gael is probably too young but we're clutching at straws). Toure can't lead, Silvestre hasn't yet proved his worth so who else is there? money bags adebayor will leave within a few years and van persie doesn't play enough games to be considered.

My other thought would be to develop Diaby as partner for Cesc in teh middle; i think he has a few years however before he can develop as a leader... if only half as good as Vieira...

Gallas never offered his resignation - simply not true. Arsene has kicked him out and you won't see him in an Arsenal shirt again.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Its not about stripping gallas of the captaincy.Personally i think he is a leader.he is a player with passion and loves arsenal and thats why he is desperate for a TROPHY!Id like to say that as an arsenal fan from nigeria, just like millions of other nigerians, arsne wenger should put an end to his unnecessary stubboness and change with time. Its about dolling out cash and buying good players.he needs about 2 proven goal scorers/clinical finishers 2 good midfielders to compliment the efforts of fabrigas and 2 defenders to help gallars, kolo toure and Gael clichy.Im not talking about spending 700,000 dollars on a player. The club should be prepared to spend 20,000,000 on a player.Failuer to do this, wenger should be relieved of his duties.Im begining to believe Platini who feels he ,wenger is just doing buisness. We need a Trophy mr wenger
