Manager Arsène Wenger has heaped praise on defenders Johan Djourou and William Gallas, after an almighty performance saw them keep a usually efficient Chelsea attack quiet for the entire second half.
The Blues put the Gunners under a lot of pressure but amazingly could not get a shot at the Arsenal goal in the second half, even when they were trailing 2-1.
And that credit is due to a defence that has come under heavy criticism for much of an inconsistent season.
Wenger said: "I think William was outstanding today, absolutely amazing. He came out of that troublesome period with, for me, a lot of credit.
"His commitment is fantastic and he was outstanding today, and had already been like that against Kyiv on Tuesday night. It shows he is a fighter.
"I wanted to try that partnership [Gallas and Djourou] and I believe also Song gives us the stature to defend in the air.
"Djourou added it too, and we were a bit stronger in the duels and in the air."
