Manager Arsène Wenger has admitted that he uses the Carling Cup to blood the youngsters in the squad, those who have the potential to play in the Premiership.
The Gunners lost 2-0 to Burnley last night and were knocked out of the competition but Wenger says that the experience the youngsters would have gained from playing the Championship side would be invaluable.
Wenger said: "The Carling Cup is the first real competition test.
"You may know that the player is good in the youth teams and training but then it is about how he performs on the big stage, with that pressure and on television.
"When every fight for the ball is hard, that is when you see if yes he can make it or no, he doesn't have a big chance.
"The players who play in the Carling Cup know that they can play at any minute in the Premier League.
"For me I don't make a big difference I just use this competition to give those players that I believe have the potential to play in the Premier League but need experience."

Agree with you. Delnilson is probably one of the worst brazillian player playing outside of Brazil. Why get a brazillian who can`t play Brazillian football? Bendtner is proving how stuborn Wenger is. He has been given way too much chance. Almunia is the least confident keeper in the league. In fact our defence always look so scared. Just look at Toure. Not to mention Gallas.

I agree about Wenger keeping players too long before booting them. If you look back, the really good players (Henry, Pires, Fabregas, Anelka, etc), they have always not needed more than one season to start giving return on investment. So why we still have mediocre players like Almunia, Song beats me. They will simply keep flattering to deceive! I believe a team as big as Arsenal should not settle for mediocrity.

MARK RANDALL not fit to wear an arsenal shirt will never be a first team regular so why is he still at my club, ive seen this average player play in the carling cup for a few years now, how many times does arsene have to see this guy play to relies he just is not good enuf.
sometimes arsene holds onto player to long when he should give them the boot. for example how chances did he give jeremie aliadiere before we finally sold him and lets not forget justin hoyte and we still own senderos say no more
now i fear the same will happpen with nicklas bendtner who i feel needs to be sold asap because he's crap,
does anyone think any of the following player are any good:
Mark Randall
nicklas bendtner
lukasz fabianski
denilson
manuel almunia

since the carling cup is used as a test, then if they can't win the carling which indicates that they have passed their test that means they can't win the premiership.
