Fabregas out for four months / New captain undecided

Midfielder and captain Francesc Fabregas has been ruled out of action for up to four months.

The Spaniard suffered the injury in a 50-50 clash with Liverpool's Xabi Alonso during the 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Manager Arsène Wenger said: "The news is not good because it is a partial rupture of the medial knee ligament which is taking three to four months injury time.

"We count four, we know he will be working very hard to come back earlier but I count four months.

"How much [we will miss him] is difficult to say, the only thing we can say for sure is that we will miss him of course. We have to find a way to compensate for the fact he will not be on the pitch, and give everybody a bit more.

"I am sure we can deal with it. When he comes back he can help us to get over the line in the final months.

"It is a blow [to lose him] of course, but we can show we have the strengths to deal with it.

"Of course it is a blow to lose Fabregas in the middle of the season - for four months - but it is a good opportunity to show we can deal with it and have the needed strengths."

The Frenchman has also yet to choose a deputy captain in Fabregas' absence, saying that he has other priorities to resolve.

He added: "That is not the most important thing. For me Fabregas remains the captain of the team even when he is not playing."

It is really a big blow for us to loose him at this time when we need every point in both domestic league and champions league. Wenger MUST use every effort he has just to keep the team's dream alive.

Before the gutter press get to say it, can I be the first, because you know it is coming. Has Cesc played his last game for us?

that's it....there goes our season. I have no confidence in denilson or diaby filling in Fab's shoes. This midfield is probably the weakest Arsenal midfield under Wenger
