Hill-Wood: We have to secure our financial future

Chairman Peter Hill-Wood has cautioned Arsenal fans against expecting manager Arsène Wenger splashing the cash in the January transfer window.

Mr Hill-Wood said that the emphasis would be to secure the club's financial future in the economic downturn, and that if the youth were needed, then the youth would be used.

He said: "I don't think there is a lot of money anywhere.

"One has got to look ahead – in the future there is probably not going to be much more money coming in.

"We have got money, but I am not sure we are going to spend a lot of it.

"We've got to continue to run the business in a sensible way. It may sound boring, but we are not going to rush out and spend fortunes on people who won't help us achieve anything better than where we are at the moment.

"Arsène has a lot of young, talented players at the club and I think he will probably give a chance to one or two of them."

I agree with many of you and watching the old Arsenal with Viera and Co was V pleasing and a complete force, i think that we lack impact and cant hold our own, what was a feared team is now just a bunch of skilful individuals. The greats have failed to be replaced and the ones in their shoes now are less than average - when games are given away like they have been its totally heart breaking.

Yours Aye

Where has my season ticket money gone? Into Hill-Woods personal bank account?

Most genuine gooners now want a takeover. I have had enough of being lied to and cheated.

Enough is enough!

Here comes the statement that all Arsenal fans were expecting... The most expensive club to support... The one that spends little on new players... hmmm...

I'd say that Hill-Wood needs to get his head out of his arsenal... Wenger is already using the kids to the best of their ability and with his coaching skills has squeezed as much out of them as possible. This has been club policy for three years with little or no money being spent. There was no recession then Mr Hill-Wood... So where is the silverware? And who are the remaining kids waiting to make their name. Unfortunately Mr Hill-Wood you seem to feel that top 4 is acceptable... In what way? In terms of financial acumen and that the club is bot in debt? Well there are some directors around that are quite prepared to dip into their own pockets for the club they love as they have a dream that their club will one day be the very best. I can remember Wenger saying similar several years ago about country and world domination. This now seems laughable. Oh but hang on I've forgotten about the recession. Yes in 12 months time when all other clubs are ruined we will reign supreme. Please all just wake up because that's not going to happen.

Football is about competition and being the very best. It's also about the style of football you play. So on a trip of nostalgia I watched a game from 2002 on Arsenal TV. Watching Adams,Viera,Henty,Pires,Lundberg,Keown, Cole, Seaman and co doing their stuff and it was incredible. I then thought about games I've watched at the Emirates and the current team weren't close to the skill being shown in 2002. Also the ability to get physical was also far better in 2002. We've been beaten by quite a few teams this year. Soundly beaten by Aston Villa. I know I was there being told by the old boy behind me to be quiet and sit down. No passiona and a lack of support I say. (must remember to move my season ticket if possible next seaeson. Ironically this dedicated old boy sitting behind me moaned and berated the team during the whole match (quietly), then left 10 minutes before the end of the game. Yes I know I sound like I'm moaning now and you'd be right. (but at least I keep it away from the game and when at the Emirates support the team as much as i can.

This brings me onto my final point. False promises from the Directors, the chairman and Wenger. Promises of £30m, promises of players coming in, promises that the club is not in debt, the promises that the stadium debt does not affect transfer funds. You continue to lie to the supporters that line your pockets. This year I've paid over £2000 for a season ticket for me and my son. Every match I get ripped off for a £3.50 plastic bottle of Budweiser and the further ripped off paying £3.80 for a plastic hotdog (lol). So when I pay as much as I do with all this, match day programmes, replica kits for my children, the £10 parking fee each day... I don't expect you to insult me by becoming a feeded club for bigger clubs, which is what we have become.

Mr Hill_wood either start showing you love the club and dip into that long pocket of your or be prepared for us finishing outside the top 4 and once again no trophies. Once that starts to happen the manager and best players will start to leave and we'll be in freefall. Or is that what you want just so the family name can continue to be associated with Arsenal. The club belings to all of us, Not just you and the directors. So invest sensibly yes but stop teh pennny pinching and trying to make a proffit every transfer window. In football things can change very quickly and we still have time to invest well and start winning again....

Yours a very frustrated gooner
