Manager Arsène Wenger has asked Arsenal fans to be patient with striker Nicklas Bendtner, saying that there is more to come from the Danish international.
Bendtner has come under criticism from some quarters with regards to his lacklustre attitude towards matches, though he did score the winning goal against Bolton Wanderers over the weekend.
Wenger said: "The fans judge on the game but the manager has to consider what he can display in one year. Today they wanted to see the finished article - that is normal.
"He has spoken to me and he knows I have full confidence in him and people are sometimes surprised that I stick with him. But I believe in him. I think he has today scored a very important goal and it is not the first time.
"He can be decisive. For me when a striker is in the air, on the move for a set-piece, he understands football. You see the first header he missed he attacked the ball well and was on the move.
"For the goal he scored he was on the move at the moment he scored. So you can say this guy is a striker and has a chance. He is 20 years old, 21 this month, but it is very young.
"I am not convinced by them [the pink boots]. But If he wears the boots and puts the ball in the net I do not mind."

I think he would make an excellent partner for vela. I have faith in bendtner unlike Diaby he is not a waste...i mean look how awful diaby played against liverpool a few weeks back it was terrible.

I believe Bendtner has more potential than he is currently showing, but I think he needs a run in the team to prove it, as does any striker!. If he never gets that chance I think it will be a shame, as I think he could be a good partner for someone like Vela/Eduardo. I was at the Emirates last season when he scored the winner against Spurs and it was one of the best feelings ever when it went in. The fans went crazy and I ended up 3 rows back being lifted up by some other fans I didnt even know!.
I know you cant have a career built on one goal, but for me it was my favourite moment ever being a Gooner, so I thank him for that. He is an Arsenal player, so we should be behind him no matter what!.

I knew Wenger will say this about Bendtner. I had told a friend immediately Bendtner was introduced in the Bolton match that he (Bendtner) may get the odd goal & that Wenger will praise him to high heavens if it does happen & was not surprised afterwards. To me, Bendtner & Diaby are just a waste of time. Mark my words, Bendtner may go the next 2 months without a goal in many appearances & you call that a striker. Common Arsene, we are better than this.Get us Arshavin & see what I mean regards Bendtner & Diaby being a waste of time.

Bendtner was lucky to have scored the goal at a critical time against bolton, but is not consistence enough. Wenger please organise extra training class for him. Gunners 4life.....
