Wenger praise for Denilson

Manager Arsène Wenger has praised midfielder Denilson on his performances this season and says that the young Brazilian has been unfairly criticised by some quarters.

The Frenchman praised Denilson's commitment and willingness to improve his game this season, stepping up to the plate to partner captain Francesc Fabregas in midfield after the departure of Gilberto Silva in the summer.

Wenger said: "I am surprised by two things - by how well he has done and how little credit he gets from the media.

"I don't think many people have gone down and deeply analysed his game. If you analyse it a little bit in a deeper way, that means the ground he covers, how much ball he wins, how quickly he passes the ball, where his balls go, you will be quite surprised.

"But he is a player who doesn't attract too much limelight because he is discreet, doesn't talk and does his job. That's what I prefer.

"He's a very hungry player and he is 20 years old, plays every game under a lot of pressure and I have never seen him in one training session be a little bit within himself. He always gives you 100 per cent."

I am a Brazilian but I am not impressed by Denilson. He lacks flair. Anderson and Lucas is better. Denilson can't tackle and he lacks the ability to go past players. He is overated. His positioning also needs improvement. Wenger can say what he wants.

He's an incredible talent, no doubt, he's just not good enough yet to be playing so often...
he would be perfect for us in 2 years..
But Wenger doesnt buy, and we have to play him

he is still too lightweight in my opinion. if not, why would arsene shift him to the right to accommodate song?

He's doing backpass too much and lack of forward run. Put him back in winger position to make him doing more run.

I do think Denilson is a very good player but it yet remains to be seen if he is cescs perfect foil. I do wonder whether the best aspects of his game are more creative/attacking then as cescs runner. Only time will tell.

Pfft. He insults my intelligence. I spent very much time analyzing Denilson's game, and came to the point that Denilson doesn't offer ball-winning ability Wenger talks about. His balls go sideways most of the times, and he takes time on the ball. I also like the players who do their jobs quietly, but Denilson doesn't do his job. Wenger's made a foul of himself here.

Flamini was the same way when he started. Took several seasons for him to get where he was last year. Denilson has come a long way since the start of the season. He has become very dependable and confident (just the opposite of Diabi & often Eboue). That's why one does not notice him anymore (he also sits deeper). I think he will come through toward the end of the season with flying colors, proving to be one of our better players
