Wenger praises Arsenal character

Manager Arsène Wenger has praised the strength and character of his squad after seeing them battle to a 1-1 draw against Everton.

The Gunners went behind to a well-taken goal from the Toffees and had Robin van Persie to thank when the Dutchman scored deep in injury time.

Wenger said: "I believe it was a game of quality with two teams who gave absolutely everything.

"We were playing against a good side and needed to show a lot of character to come back.

"I knew we wouldn't give up and we kept fighting until the last second, but you couldn't predict that we would score in injury time.

"I knew we would give everything. There is a lot of character in the team and we showed that again tonight."

Maybe some signs of character but definitely no quality. It was excruciating watching the way we played, I was thinking to myself - wheres the Arsenal football that made me a loyal supporter of the team? Its hard to accept but true, these days Man United are playing the kind of beautiful football that we know. Whats worse is reading that wenger actually believes that we played a quality game against everton, seriously? we sucked!

Arsenal do not deserve a point from the Everton game, but Van Persie does. We were simply outplayed at Goodison Park. It's funny how Wenger usually get back his composure after this kind of games. During such games, Wenger would look so concerned & confused about the team's inability to respond. But suddenly minutes after the game, he gets his composure & the right words to use to cover Arsenal's glaring lack lustre performance. One wonders what happened to our counter attacking play fluidity in the middle. Well, the answer is not far fetched. We suddenly lacked many pacy & creative players in the midfield/ attack. A situation where Diaby & Adebayor would rather drag us back instead of moving forward in a counter. Though kudos to the team especially V.P for the unlikely draw they got at Goodison Park, but this praises on character after struggling to get a draw will certainly not help the team win trophies instead restructure the team with quality players that could help bring back the good old Arsenal.
