Lachter: Arshavin has signed for Arsenal

Agent Dennis Lachter says that Russian playmaker Andrei Arshavin has signed for the Gunners in a deal worth £12 million.

The contract is said to be until 2012 and the player, who agreed personal terms and passed a medical, has been given the number 23 shirt.

Yesterday, reports that Arshavin was being driven back to Heathrow airport emerged after claims that the move had broken down over a dispute on the player's signing-on fee, which Zenit St. Petersburg wanted half of.

Lachter, who is Arshavin's agent, said: "It was completed in extra-time but we must wait for confirmation.

"In 16 years this has been the most difficult transfer ever."

Zenit spokesman Alexei Petrov, who had earlier said the move was cancelled, was quoted late on Monday as saying: "The deal was signed for three-and-a-half years and the financial details will be disclosed tomorrow."

Zenit rated him 20million pounds and Arsenal offered 10 at the beginning of the transfer window. The Telegraph says the deal was valued at 16.7 million. Why did it take Wenger til the end of the window to get this deal done. Just get the deal done three weeks ago and Arshavin would be ready to at least be a sub. Now we have to wait three more weeks to get him match fit. Why does Wenger (who I respect and am patient with) haggle over such little amounts. We knew that Arshavin would go for between 15 and 18. Just get to that point and get the deal done.

Ashavin is a great signing, at least we would have one more reliable leg in the midfield, and also keep our big names in the squad for us, God bless Arsenal.

I'm pulling my hair out at this point. I check the net every hour for an official announcement. Is he in or is he not?
I swear, they should put a health advisory in the matchday programmes at the Emirates.

Arshavin will be playing for Arsenal and wearing the number 23 shirt. The problem with the deal was Zenit demanding a share of his transfer fee which delayed proceedings. Basically things were finalised, just agents trying to agree on a fee that was agreed upon, whilst arshavin was left out in the cold waiting to hear the good news. This guy has been wanting a move and to play in england, and arsenal was wear he wanted to be.
A great asset to the club and his coach Dick Advocatt has stated that he will be a great player for Arsenal and what they paid ended up being a bargain. He believes he is worth more and will revel playing with better players around him. The guy has been under immense pressure to perform for Zenit and heavily relied upon, but has been a consistent performer and match winner. Arsenal will see just how good a player he truly is. This guy will fire them towards a last ditched title attempt and with players coming back in, Arsenal look set for a major assault in the Champions League

The amount of hype and coverage that this transfer has brought about is ridiculous. Let's just hope he can fill up that 13 kit with foot skills as good as the last 13, Hleb. I'm afraid all this attention may have negative results for Arshavin, but only time will tell.
