Manager Arsène Wenger has hailed the 'controlled' and 'creative' performance from his young starts which saw them end a run of goalless draws and score three goals in a 3-1 demolition of West Bromwich Albion.
However, the Gunners defence was breached for the first time in six matches, allowing the Baggies to equalise at 1-1 before Kolo Touré and Nicklas Bendtner put the result beyond doubt.
Wenger said: "The game was decided in the first half where all the important facts happened.
"After our early goal, coming back to 1-1 gave them hope and belief. But we found goals number two and three just before half-time and you could see our third goal was a big blow to them.
"In the second half we controlled the game and created more chances that we didn't take but I thought goals four and five were there to be taken.
"It is a strange situation because we have created the same amount of chances as we did tonight in many games but didn't win.
"We are on a long unbeaten run since the beginning of November and I still believe that if we had taken our chances in a few of the draws we could still be in the title race.
"Now, we want to focus on reducing the gap with Aston Villa and maybe other teams."
