Wenger and Fergie: PFA awards not fair enough

With players from Manchester United dominating the shortlist for the PFA awards, manager Arsène Wenger has said that the voting process is not fair enough.

Manchester United dominated with five players - Nemanja Vidic, Edwin van der Sar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand named while Liverpool's Steven Gerrard is the only representative from outside Old Trafford.

Wenger said: "The decisions are all made in February. The players who are rewarded are those who played well until February.

"A player who has been out until January has no chance to be voted but he can still be very influential for the rest of the season.

"Now is the most important time of the season - April, May - so these awards just reward the players of the first six months of the season.

"If they vote in May, I hope some of my players would be in there."

United manager Alex Ferguson agreed with Wenger, adding: "We can't just focus on the final games of the season, but maybe, in fairness, they should vote later.

"But we have had some outstanding performers this season."

I think what Sir Alex Ferguson said was been fair enough and not been sentimental about the statement made by Arsene Wenger.
