Fabregas: We need to improve defensively

Captain Francesc Fabregas says that him and his team need to improve defensively after the Gunners conceded a disastrous four goals against Liverpool in midweek.

But instead of being on the losing side, the one consolation was that they also scored four at Anfield, but unfortunately that was not enough to secure the three points.

Fabregas now says the team need to work on their defensive work, as no team aspiring to challenge for the title or to win trophies should concede four in a single game.

The Spanish international said: "From an attacking point of view we played one of the best games of the season.

"It might even have been the best but defensively, we need to improve a lot if we really want to be in the Champions League final. I think we have to concentrate on that, even though it is the most difficult thing.

"When you attack you have creativity and you feel by instinct where you need to go, you do it by a feeling at that precise moment.

"But defensively, if you are not well positioned you will concede goals, and that's why we have to do a lot of work on that.

"There are still a lot of things we know we need to work on and put right.

"We gave away the goals too easily. After all we'd done to create the chances and score four great goals, coming back like we did, when we concede goals like we did, it is difficult to take.

"When we press, we play well, and when we drop back it is very dangerous for us.

"Then we concede corners and some tall players win the ball against us and get the second ball and try to shoot. So everybody must take responsibility for the fact we conceded four goals."

Am of the opinion that we need a central defender come next season more so when we are not sure of Gallas stay next season. As a gunner i urge Arsen Wenger to go for a good defender and the player that immediately come to my mind is RICHARDS of MANCITY.The guy is hardworking and inteligent when u watch him on the field.If we want a trophy next season we need to fortify our defence.Great gunners.

Senderos better that Silvestre? Are you serious?
Senderos is a poor player, and Silvestre is not our first choice. He is an OK back up.

it does not matter how well these defenders we have practice....... they are rubbish and Arsene should see the light. I know that he is a maestro at spotting talent, but i feel that thats not the case with defenders and keepers. just feel that he should get someone to pick the defenders. i personally thought that Senderos is a better defender than Mr reject Silvestre............. Gooner 4 life
