Wenger: Gap between us and United not too big

Manager Arsène Wenger thinks that the gap between his team and champions Manchester United is not as big as everyone makes it out to be.

Wenger's men clashed with United in the semi-finals of the Champions League, losing the tie 4-1, embarrassingly 3-1 on their own home ground.

Wenger said: "I respect everybody's opinion. But I have my beliefs and I am convinced that this team has improved a lot.

"I don't deny that Man United deserved to go through but we are hugely frustrated with the way it happened in the second leg. We did not have a chance to show how good we were because the game was over after 10 minutes.

"The most difficult thing in the modern game is putting yourself in the position where you have to chase the game. You could see that with Barcelona against Chelsea – after 10 minutes Barca were in a position where they had to chase the game and they were closer to losing 4-0 or 5-0 than to drawing 1-1.

"We were in that position after 10 minutes at Old Trafford and that made it very difficult.

"I know by experience that afterwards people always take definite conclusions but I believe the distance between the two teams is not as big as people make out today."

At least Wenger knows there is a gap.

The gap is 4seasons without a trophy and two champions league trophies (maybe 3) wide.

is wenger blind or just plain daft man u are about to win the title three times in a row and a chance to make history in europe, what have we done,and done give me this about our young team man u have young players,Ronaldo,Rooney,Anderson,Da Sivla's,Carrick,Vidic,etc he needs to take his blinkers off and see the real world its the fans that are being ripped off not him.We are lucky Villa has just faded away in the last few months.
