Wenger: I'm not stingy

Manager Arsène Wenger has moved to correct the perception that he is a man who is reluctant to get his wallet out when it comes to splashing the cash.

The Frenchman has been likened to doing his transfer deals in Woolworths' when his closest rivals are shopping in Harrods.

But Wenger says that it's not true, adding that there is not need for a major overhaul of the existing squad.

Wenger said:: “I’m fed up with people who think I have £100 million in the bank yet don’t want to spend it. How can people think that?

“The pride of the club is in having moved to a new stadium, while maintaining the team at the top level.

“We cannot pump £100m into the squad, so we must keep faith in what we are doing as I believe this team does a lot of things right.

“It does not need to be transformed. When you go on a long unbeaten run in the Premier League and reach two semi-finals, as we did last season, common sense tells you that.

“This team is now much harder for people to handle than last September. The future looks bright.

“But I want to add to the squad and I have identified one or two targets. However, identifying players and buying them are two different things!â€

Same old... same old!!!! Next year this time, we will still be hearing the same story after another trophyless season. The time might be doing a lot of things right but not enough to compete with our rivals.

We, the Arsenal board re-iterate that we do not need ‘their sort’ at AFC. Don’t you remember we’ve still got the 70m transfer war chest? Don’t know why Arsene continues with such blatant lies. His line totally contradicts ours and brings into question our integrity. Rest assured we’ll be having a quiet word with that fella soon enough.

However, we feel there is absolutely no need for us to release any PR and defend ourselves here because the good folks on this board and everywhere have already done that on our behalf and conveniently forgotten and brushed aside those earlier statements we made. Who would you rather believe? Us or that French joker?

Thanks for your undying support and belief in the board as always.

Forever accountable,

PHW & Fisz

P/S: Ok maybe we did tell a little porkie that we didn’t want ‘his sort’ on board. It’s just that the timing wasn’t quite right for us at that time. I'm sure you nice folks understand. You always do. Stan is fine chap btw.

I understand trying to keep upbeat, but the unbeaten run fail's to really impress.

What was it 22 matches unbeaten of which 9 of those matches were draws, four of which were nil-nils. We're also talking wins in that run against teams like Newcastle.

Prior to that we lost to Fullham 1-0, Hull 2-1, Sunderland was a draw 1-1, lost to stoke 2-1, Aston Villa 2-0, Man City 3-0, Middlesborough draw 1 all. And that's not taking into account the end of our season.

We need some significant changes in my opinion, and all round.

Mr Wenger, do not bother about negative talks. Get the posives which can help to strengthen the team.
You have already acquired one player and you are still continuing to address the current weaknesses.
Some of us fully agree with you when you say that Arsenal squad is strong enough, we only need to address a few weaknesses. Please go a head with your plans.
